Snapshot/Deflection shooting.. Reality.

More data..  read the description of the action. Then note the number of rounds expended.

A testimonial above reproach on the lethality of the .50's in the real world.

Pretty cool hangtime.

Dont see how it shows the RW lethality of .50's tho. A .30 could just as easily punch a hole in a rad.

Now how does HTC model 'Fear of death'?

As to effectiveness of .50's (or .30's for that matter) no comment.

As to "Fear of death", well I posted an idea on that in Gott's HO thread.

Simply stated, no kills awarded until you've made a good landing at an airfield.

Throw in any kind of a "death delay" be it stuck in tower, ferrying a new plane from a rear field, or any other way that will give people time to reconsider doing it that way again.

I'm not saying thats the way I'm flying now, cause I'm as bad as the anyone. I'll defend a field & get vulched 18 times in a row the same as anyone. I'll roll & fly & fight till I'm dead or out of ammo.

I would however welcome the incentive to fly more realisticly (not to mention Historicly).
I would probably not do well at it, but given the choice I'll pick realism every time.

I've read that encounter in his book and I think that in this case he got a lucky break and that in this case getting so few hits on an enemy plane and causing critical damage was not the norm and in most cases it took more sustained fire to inflict critical damage.  That's just my interpertation of the story as I read it.  Don't get me wrong 99.99% of the time anyone sees me online I'm in a P51 so I'm a great proponent of the .50 cal MG and I think that the damage is pretty accurate as it is now.  Again just my own humble little opinion based on in game observations and reading combat stories of P51 pilots.

That's cool Hangtime!

I can take out a guys radiator all the time with 50 rounds.  Of course in here people don't bail out nicely.

Yup.. That wuz Bud's first kill. But I think ya'all missed the point. Lets try again.

50 rounds expended. From 4 .50's.

Also consider he's shootin REALLY far under his nose.. very high angle deflection shooting.

Anybody here EVER bag a 109 with a high deflection shot with 50 rounds EXPENDED from this kind of position with 4 .50 cal MG's?? Anybody ever see the radiators get pinged on a 109.. ever see white smoke from a 109?

Deflection shooting and damage recieved from the .50s IS undermodeled here in AH.

Hang. I get my rad popped in a 109 quite often, and In one of my few p51 missions I got a 109s rad. I must be special.
Trying to see where people are coming from in regards to the 50s I have flown a few mission of late with them. They are not 20mms but I would say that both planes are very well armed.

I like the idea of flying realistically as much as anyone, but... penalizing players for not doing so cannot happen outside an Historic Arena. Too many new (read: tenuous) customers in the Main Arena to make this happen.

Hang, I'm sure  there  are many more unreported non-kills where the pilot  missed pathetically, and/or the 109 withstood the punishment.  You can't base your claims of AH .50's being inder-modeled on one report.  Besides, you've already won 1/2 the fight when you encounter  anyone in a P51...a donut to those  that can tell  me who said this famous quote:

"Anytime you can engage, and disengage at will, you have won 1/2 the battle"...he was referring to having a superior A/C that had a speed advantage over all prop  driven aircraft.  Hell, you beef those .50's  up in AH, and we might as well name is "Mustangs High" !

And I thought I was misunderstood.
I caught the intent right off, Hang.  Deflection shooting, especially the snapshot suffers badly, as you have pointed out previously.  When 1.02 comes out, we'll see what's different and what's the same or worse.
