Arenas....Any changing of thought?
« on: October 22, 2006, 10:46:22 AM »
Am sitting here reading the posts, and would like to get anyone's reaction to my thoughts on the Sept. 13 change in the format of the arenas.....

PROS:
Love the plane set. Got tired of LA hordes jumping on the lone P-40E. Fighter pilot I ain't, but Jeez, 6 LA's on a Warhawk?

Differant maps for each arena. DOn't like a current map being played? Switch arenas! I am fond of this "pro" myself.

Each arena has it's own "flavor", and I'm not talkin about just planes. The players in each arena give each arena a unique differance from AA, other MA arenas, ect.

CONS

The LWA is getting the most attention, and while I like flying in LW, I also enjoy the EWA....when 350 in the LWA and 15 in the EWA...makes the EWA feel mighty....lonley.

I personally don't like the "low" caps on each arena, and respectfully disagree with opening a arena #2 of whatever arena....If the arena is full that you want to play in, try agian later, or better yet, fly /w folks you haven't flown with in one of the other arenas.   However, that is just my personal thought on that.

Summary:

I kinda like the way things are set up and while the new setup has elements I personally don't care for, I can work around em.

This post is just my personal take on what's going on, and seeking others thoughts and ideas. Not ment as a whaa whaa post or a flame at anyone.

Dragon, I've noticed that in the LW arena's, there are people going in there, and still flying early war rides. It's really a matter of people flying in their squads, or liking the big fights. The EW arena is now more like a 'furball' room, with a set of schoolground rules for behaviour.(No HO's, No high alt-5k or less, No porking or dropping of hangars....)Anyway, you see that people simply don't like restriction. So they go to the LW and fly where there is more variety.

In short, I don't really think that people were set in their ways with the old MA, but....more to the point, what the MA offered (companionship/comradeship, NME's that people could like to fight, The chance that they could be a leader with some measure of respect, etc.) I used to think that alot of people liked to use AH to vent real life. Here, you could satisfy the urge to blow up your boss at work's house(dropping hangars) or you could watch the owner of the company spiral into the ground and blow up...You could even blow up his car(If you could settle for it looking like a panzer or M-8.) And the best part was, they could meet people online from all over the world, that they could learn to be friends with. It kind of made the MA like a giant chat room, only with everyone online sharing a common liking...that of WWII air combat.

My thinking is, is that is one of the reasons you see so many people in the LW arena.

If I were to give one more reason...Plain and simply, the LW planes are what most people think of when they see books or movies of WWII. So they want to fly those.

I like somethings... hate other things with the new set-up.

I like the EW & MW plane sets. I don't care for the "schoolground rules for behaviour" ie... Some trying to turn the place into a Furballers only club. I did the "I am a Furballer" thing 10 years ago in AW... I got over it.

The arena I would like to see the number of players go up in is AvA... as it has some of the best plane matchups and maps in AH2. Or go back to one larger arena with a rollin plane set.

This is because some of the early was planes like the 109f and the f4u-1 can kick the snot out of most LW planes.  And it fun to watch these guys yell on 200 saying u cheat, there no way a EW plane can beat my la7, or spit 16, niki, etc...  I get PM's all the time from it to, lol.

I think Frode hit the nail on the head and so did AKDogg. Nothing like Flying 3-5k in a Hurricane IIC and pouncing a Spit 16 or LA-7 in LW make you smile. They think nothing can stand up to them and then you get them in a turn fun fight and then real fun begins. AKDogg you forgot one thing though. If you shot down the a bunch of noobs near there airfield they up the same plane trying to get you.

Everyone has already given damn good reasons as to why the LW Arenas are doing better then EW and MW. I know HT and Pryo had good reasons for the changes made. But, it didnt stop the hordes and broke up squads. The reason I fly this game is for my squad. I am better modern Air Combat pilot then I would ever be in AH. But I found a cool group of people and fly with them and have come to know a few opponents on the other sides that I do enjoy dogfighting. And you guys have got to admit killing someone and then have them whine about it on 200 can get quite funny. My biggest complaints about the game are two main things.
1) HT turn off collisions. I have seen alot of Noobs and even a few vets get mad because they can not shot you down and then resort to ramming you. I know it was turned on in a way to stop HOing. Well I have gotten to the point where I HO just to aviod getting rammed.
2) UP the caps in the rooms so people can hoose who they want to fly with and when. Make new maps where people can fly in a certain area liek ole FT where you can only up EW or MW aircraft.
