Dragon, I've noticed that in the LW arena's, there are people going in there, and still flying early war rides. It's really a matter of people flying in their squads, or liking the big fights. The EW arena is now more like a 'furball' room, with a set of schoolground rules for behaviour.(No HO's, No high alt-5k or less, No porking or dropping of hangars....)Anyway, you see that people simply don't like restriction. So they go to the LW and fly where there is more variety.
In short, I don't really think that people were set in their ways with the old MA, but....more to the point, what the MA offered (companionship/comradeship, NME's that people could like to fight, The chance that they could be a leader with some measure of respect, etc.) I used to think that alot of people liked to use AH to vent real life. Here, you could satisfy the urge to blow up your boss at work's house(dropping hangars) or you could watch the owner of the company spiral into the ground and blow up...You could even blow up his car(If you could settle for it looking like a panzer or M-8.) And the best part was, they could meet people online from all over the world, that they could learn to be friends with. It kind of made the MA like a giant chat room, only with everyone online sharing a common liking...that of WWII air combat.
My thinking is, is that is one of the reasons you see so many people in the LW arena.
If I were to give one more reason...Plain and simply, the LW planes are what most people think of when they see books or movies of WWII. So they want to fly those.
