Shooting people and planes
« on: October 23, 2006, 03:48:53 PM »
2 questions:

1.  Whats the general take on shooting people in parachutes?  I think it's dirty.  The person has already been downed.  Now if they get on the ground and run towards your base, thats different.  Light 'em up.  But if they get down and end sortie, whats the harm?

2.  Has anyone here downed another plane in flight with rockets?

chutes dont do anything. if you want to shoot them and waste a bit of your ammo, go ahead!

ahh, rockets. there are the wgr210 rockets on some german planes which are specifically designed as A2A rockets. fire them at a bomber group about 1.2k away and the rocket will explode near them like a puffy ack shell, can kill an entire set of buffs with one rocket.

A2G rockets though? yes, my first ever kill was in a p38, and i shot a niki down. i then spent the next week trying to figure out why my 'missiles' werent locking on :lol

it's possible to do quite easily, just practise a lot and know where the rockets will go, hit a buff, the whole group is heavily damaged, if not totally destroyed:aok

I hope this answers question # 1

Question #2:

Yes.  There are some german air-to-air rockets available on some models.  The 110-G2 carries 4 air to air rockets.

I've also hit a typhoon from about 3.5k with a lucky shot from an A2G rocket fired from a P-51D

Nothing I guess.  It just adds insult to injury, uses bullets, awards no points (right?).  Screws up their kill/death ratio.

You just 1/2 as much "stick stir" I'll blow your chute away you "gamey" little tosser you.  You bail over my field I'll blow ya chute away you "spotter" you.  You bail over your town I'll blow your chute away you "troop shooter" you.

Rockets on planes are more hassle than there worth.  Those rox drop like bricks and take some learning.  Why bother when you have cannon.

Probably there is no consensus.  Some people bail because it enhances their immersion.  Some bail because they can get to the tower quicker that way.  Some bail to maximize their point totals.

Some chute shooters do it to enhance their immersion, others because they are natural sadists.  Some, like me, do it to discourage the pointmongers.

I sense that you might be fairly new to this game.  There aren't many topics that spark such prompt and immediate merriment as discussions on chute shooting.

Truer words have never been typed, only reason to bail is to save your self the time falling to the ground, or in my case I always hit the silk even if I'm too low to open it just to save myself from that horrible crash sound when the plane splats...  Come to think of it maybe I should just turn that sound down.  If someone wants too piss away 5 minutes floating down from 10k I guess thats alright, but when the mood strikes me right... I chute shoots :)
