Some extra thoughts on training bases.
« Reply #15 on: October 24, 2006, 04:31:34 PM »
When at the TA a trainer could not keep in contact with squadies or friends in the main arena.  If the raining bases was in the main arena he could get a call and leave for a bit to help his friends.

I think most people want to be out there in the action and not stuck in some boring TA.

also anyone one on any side shoots at anything in the training area it would be like killshooting.

Now THATS thinking!:aok

A poor way to describe the TA in my opinion.  I cover the TA all the time when there are 2-3 times the number of people that you sited.  So your roster count taken 12 hours away from peak times in AH isnt exactly spot on.

I like the idea of a training base in the LW arena.  Put it at the edge of a big map and turn off killshooter for planes that up there.  Also limit fuel so I don't fly clear across the map and kill my buddies.  Ohhh that would be nice.

if anyone would have cared to read the "Welcome Message" on the Trainers Website, Schatzi posted a link to above, they would see something is already in the works.................

to me there is a very thin difference if any in the Informal Training we give here verses what I have seen in any other MMOG flight sim ( you name it I more than likely have an acct or had an acct in it) over the last 10+ years.

to add, and it will only get better here in Aces High, the Trainers continue to work on and bring new ideas/concepts/useful help to the aces high community...........so far we have had a great year of offering new Training materials to the community and also some Long time veterans conspired to offer Dok's Plane comparison charts :aok

I truly do not see how a "TrainingBase" in any Main arena could be of much use or help........... The "TRUE Vets" will always offer help and answer questions, the other vets will never change and always give the ignorant answers/remarks........
"When one considers just what they should say to a new pilot who is logging in Aces High, the mind becomes confused in the complex maze of info it is necessary for the new player to know. All of it is important; most of it vital; and all of it just too much for one brain to absorb in 1-2 lessons" TC

I think this idea sounds pretty cool. It would be fairly realistic too... a wet-nose training base well behind enemy lines...

THe TA sounds great for peak times but for off peak times when all these selfless trainers (no sarcasm, honestly) are offline, it's a bit dead with 2 -5 people in there.

Perhaps this is a country based sort of attitude, I fly Bishops and I've never seen anyone be that rude to n00bs asking questions. I've seen a couple of funny ones, but nothing malicious.

First, my sincere regrets if my use of "leper colony" was taken to mean that I think that is what the TA is. I think the TA provides great service and I have never suggested that Training Bases in every arena should replace it.

Second, that's great that there are more people in the TA during peak hours.

Nevertheless, I still think that there are some positive reasons to seriously consider one Training Base per country in each arena. as a few of the others have mentioned.

Sorry, I didn't explain the idea well here.

Right now two accounts can fly in the same plane via join me, and can simultaneously control aspects of a single bomber - i.e. pilot and gunner.

My idea is to devise a toggle and indicator light in the Instructor's cockpit that would switch flight control to the cadet and vice-versa. The instructor clicks a switch and a few milliseconds later the cadet has control and vice-versa. Only one account is in control of the plane at anytime, but like two in the bomber, both are in the same plane. That is still some coding, and probably not worth it to but a few. Merely a suggestion.

Best Regards

Schatzi commented above:

The problem with a training base in the MA is simple. Damage/Killshooter. The first thing a newbie usually wants to do is get in the air and shoot something.

Fair enough. I've had a few more thoughts and I think it would be possible to let the Training Base's "radar circle" control features specific to the Training Base.

Only for planes that spawn from the Training Base and that stay within the radar circle:

"Kill Shooter" is OFF
"Invulnerability to weapons fire" is ON
"Lead Angle" aiming is ON

As long as the instructor and newb stay within the "radar circle" they fly pretty much as in the TA. However, only the planes available in the arena are available at the Training Base, and perk planes still cost the same amount to fly. So if a newb with no perks wants to fly an ME 262 they have to go to the TA.

Vets who want to refresh a few minutes in an unfamiliar plane would be able to do so in the same arena just by moving to the Training Base. I'd set a max limit of 15 for access to the Training Base by vets who are neither instructors nor newbs to prevent turning the Training Base into the center of attention of the arena.

If planes that spawn from the Training Base leave the radar circle, then kill shooter goes back on, vulnerability to weapons fire is on, there's no lead angle, and if they shoot down an enemy plane outside the circle, they get negative perks. This discourages using the Training Base to mount offensives.

Enemy planes that enter the Training Base radar circle may be attacked by anyone who spawned there, who have the advantage of kill shooter off between them and invulnerability to weapons fire. That discourages but does not prevent enemy over-flights of Training Bases.

A friendly aircraft from a different base that crosses the radar circle is subject to "lead angle" aiming, friendly fire shoot down, and cannot shoot down Training Base planes but is still subject to kill shooter. This discourages but does not prevent allied planes from loitering over the Training Base.

I also thought that if a new subscriber of up to ~ 3 months moves to the Training Base, and no instructors are there, then the Training Base could flash Blue on the clipboard map. This would alert instructors and anyone else that a new subscriber may be looking for help.

Not a bad idea but I would say that, at least in my experiance.. some of that is happening now because of the arena splits.

I have had about a dozen new (and a few not so new) guys "join" my plane.

I never even knew the thing existed in the old slum MA... I guess... who would want to see how to fly an FM2 or F6 in the old slum MA when any moron could see that there were far better plane choices with no restrictions?

I don't know if the guys in my plane learned anything.... they probly wondered why I never got over 2-3k and aimed right for a mass of players.  I am not a teacher tho..  so I couldn't really "train" anyone... I can let em see what I do and maybe... they will get some tips on what to do and what not to do.

Maybe it is the smaller numbers and the generaly better 200 in the early and mid war...  or... maybe posting here lately has shown more people what a nice approchable guy I really am.

With all the dedicated trainers and the new TA format dedicated to every aspect of the game. I really do not see how this suggestion for the MA has any merit. Respectfully :)

Seems to me that veteran flyers would be willing to pop over to a training base for a few minutes to help a new subscriber as long as they could remain in the arena where the "action" is and can keep tabs on what their friends, squad or country may be doing.

So much for taking personal responsibility to read the documentation.

lol hacksaw, if people are clueless enough to ask how to start their engine, they will have no idea how to get to this silly little training base. why would anyone go there? sorry, i dont want to be mean, but it's a really stupid idea.

It could be set up so that all newbs start at the training field.  Kind of an easy problem to solve if you think about it instead of attacking it.
