Via Bob Geiger, the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America took a look at 324 legislative votes in the last five years which affected American troops and veterans. Legislative proposals included veterans' benefits, healthcare, and medical research dedicated towards injured soldiers (head injuries, etc.) Based on these votes, IAVA calculated which senators and congressmen had a history of supporting the troops, and which didn't, and graded them on a curve.

Interesting that the Dems in CT have a much better record supporting our troops then the Republicans... I wouldn't have thought that based on the propoganda around here.

hmmm yeaa...Im gonna have to disagree...Take good old Senator Dodd.

The guy voted no against a missile defence shield, the Chemical and Biological Weapons Threat Reduction Act, and has voted yes for giving terrorist the same rights as American's, and yes for Connecticut base closures....doing a good job for the military, or any of us in connecticut for that matter, my arse

And our CT Republicans, who presumably became Republicans because they believe in a strict interepretation of the Constitution, have instead done their part to rip it to shreds by toting the party line.

I wouldn't throw voting against a missile defense shield fantasy as bad politics... That sort of thing has waste of money written all over it... Like building a wall with a screen door gate.

And as for "[voting] yes for giving terrorist the same rights as American..." Well, I kinda believe everyone should have the same rights as Americans... That was one of the feel good reasons for going into Iraq in the first place, right? I know I used it...

those rights are not reserved for those who are willing to commit the vicious murders of thousands of innocent people. Especially women and children. and Vud...Connecticut is just a chitty state for politics....We are one of the most liberal states in the union....Rosa Delauro and Chris Dodd are almost as left as you can get, and aside from foreigny policy and international relations, Shay's, Johnson and Simmons (not as much as the first two), are more liberal than conservative......And I quote Congressman Shays (R) from his US House debate last week. "I have many disagreements with the President. Infact, my record over the past ten years shows that I am 54% liberal, 46% conservative)

Those rights are reserved for everyone. If all men truly are created equal, then all men deserve equal treatment. It doesn't matter how much they are in the wrong, or how crazy they are.

This doesn't mean I'm against the war, or that I don't feel we should use stronger methods in it, but I certainly feel that our enemies should feel the stronger methods on the battlefield and not in a prison.

54/46 seems a pretty good balance for me, regardless of which way it's leaning. It's a shame all our representatives, from both parties, don't have something like that record.

I don't mean to single you out Silat, but when I first read this post I realized that I knew exactly what the content would be before I even clicked the link. Then it occured to me I knew pretty much what most users of this forum are likely going to say prior to reading the posts. Point being, the good discussion I used to come here for has largely dried up. I think perhaps it's time for me to move on.
