This was a better dogfighter than the 262 and better firepower it says I think .

The He280 instead had similar maneuverability like the Fw190A (wingload 4125kg : 21.5m2 = 191kg/m2, less than Fw190D!) and was
with its speed advantage and good armament most probably the best dogfighter of World War 2, especially in hit-and-run tactics.
The HeS08 and BMW109-003 engines had better handling and provided better acceleration than the Jumo109-004

I can't find anything that says it reached operational status, just that it was passed over in favor of the 262.

Two sites state it never was operational, just prototypes.

Can anyone confirm?

Yes, it was NOT a production plane. It was a test bed for engines. The contract went to Messerschmitt and the 262.

ahh bit the He 219 was,while not a jet,it would be a useful and welcome plane in the hanger.1 of the deadliest nightfighters the LW had,downing some 20 mossies................
