Those Building MA Maps - A word of advice
« on: October 29, 2006, 06:56:15 AM »
If you are building MA maps, I'd STRONGLY suggest you send a BMP of your terrain and base layout to HTC BEFORE you start building it in the TE. Otherwise you could be going through a whole lot of work that might be rejected.

On that note, I don't usually post my terrains but I have 4 terrains waiting (NOTE the word "waiting" no TE work is done yet) approval at HTC now...

And 3 variations of one terrain for the 3 Arenas...

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I use a mix. The Mesa map is one that I've had since AH1 but never did anything with it. :)

Actually, .dem is usually not playable from a MA point of view. Realistic does not necessarily equal playable.

While this map looks pretty, it's probably the most boring terrain from a play standpoint. The steps you see in the map actually work out to be gentle slopes..

what do you guys use to build maps in bmp etc... and how do things like alt go on these maps?

also can these files be imported into TE giving you the basic layout of your terrain?

How can one view those bmp:s you have included in your posts?

They should just come up.

But I see you're in Europe. My server has 90% of Europe IP addresses (almost all of RIPE) blocked because of massive spam coming from providers there and their unwillingness to do something about it. My server may be refusing your connection.

If you have a dedicated IP address that never changes, send it to me in a PM and I'll unblock that specific IP.

I'm not sure what you're asking.

Elevation BMPs are grayscale BMPs. I use a mix of .DEM, Terragen and World Machine with final mastering done in Photoshop. And yes they can be imported.

If you're asking about the maps themselves, they are done in Photoshop.

Alt on the ones I show differ a little. On the Mesa maps max terrain alt=9300ft max base alt=6000ft. On the Small Pizza Map max terrain alt=8000ft max base alt=5000ft (I think I don't remember for sure now). And no, you can't import these for terrain features.

No problem :)

FYI if your IP address starts with any of these numbers, that is why you can't see pictures...

58 through 62, 80 through 89, 121, 124, 125, 189, 190, 194, 195

I've unblocked all except the mail ports for Europe, so you should be able to see the pictures. If not, there's something wrong on your end.
