Prepare for the Nov 14th CPU wars
« on: October 30, 2006, 03:04:13 PM »
Assuming they both release on schedule -

Intels Kentsfield 4 core v AMD 4 core solution the 4x4

Should be interesting.
Intels 4 core supposed to be around $999
AMDs 4x4 has 3 choices with low one (2 x FX-70) priced at around, yup you guessed $999.

Benchies should be real interesting, only ones I've seen are Kentsfield v 2 dual core Opterons up to now.

Clock is ticking.

What I know about the 4 x 4 -
Uses nVidia chipset (680a) that supports 4 PCI-E graphics cards, 2 at 16 lanes, 2 at 8 lanes.
Has four onboard gigabit connections .
Uses Socket F same as the new Opterons
Think its up to 12 SATA devices RAID 0,1,5,0+1
Unregistered non ECC DDR 2 memory (standard stuff)

Update -

These were orignal prices for 2 x 2 dual cores, but 'allegedly' they are coming down so the top end ones match the top end Kentsfield -
FX-70 @ 2.6GHz - 999
FX-72 @ 2.8 GHz - 1132
FX-74 @ 3.0 Ghz - 1500

Wait and see what Nov 14th brings :) .
