(I took this idea from Bill O'reilly's culture warrior)

It's the year 2020, and President Gloria Hernandez is about to give her State of the Union Address...What will she say? (Seriously)

She'll probably say: 'Live from New York, It's Saturday Night'....

In 14 years time, the only Latina that the US will give enough popular votes to to win the office of Chief Executive will be a fictional one.

Are we supposed to panic at the idea of a hispanic (gasp) female (GASP!) president?

Willy Horton or will he not get elected?

Paranoia is teh bad, yes, but I still wonder what the motivation behind the original question is.

Is it "How will you react to a latina President?" (with a subtext that "the way thing are going, these hispanic folks are going to take the country away from us real americans" that's not unreasonable to interpret).

or is it

Is it "What will the 2020 state of the nation address?"

The fact that he went out of his way to use that name seems to suggest that the first is very possible.   I'm not trying to tilt at windmills, but I can see some ingenuous "gosh Chairboy, where'd you get _that_ idea?" posts from people playing dumb coming soon.

Race has always been important in US politics.  The Willy Horton reference, for one.  An attack ad using jungle drums when describing a black candidate for senate recently, the whole illegal immigration issue, etc.  Seems like this could be another example.

You are right, I did use the name "Gloria Hernandez" to imply that a hispanic female was in Office...There is nothing racist about that at all...Looking at the hispanic population boom, and the women in politics movement, it is very possible to have this type of combination in the year 2020..................

How interesting. Almost two and quarter centuries of unbroken white male domination, an in 14 years we break through two barriers?

A female president, maybe.

A non-white president, perhaps.

Both? Sure. Sometime before the turn of the next century.

Does that mean they are also mostly pro life?

Ideology is far more important than race or gender to many. I'd vote for Condaleeza Rice over John Kerry 100 times out of a hundred.
