Looking for webhosting
« on: November 05, 2006, 07:51:37 PM »
Hi Guys -

I'm looking for a company that does webhosting.  Nothing fancy, just something I can build webpages to document my car restoration.  My current site is 'free" thru the BBS that I'm on but I only have 50 MB of space and I'm fast running out...

I did a search, and there are ton of them out there, I'm just curious if anyone can recommend some.

thanks!

I host 6 websites with them

Very reasonable rates.. especially with the support and features.

My dad swears by godaddy.com, but I didn't get the feeling they had as robust a package as the group I use. I didn't dig into the differences too deeply, however.

I'm quite happy with what I have.

Good hunting.

I’ve used 2.

The first one I used was Globat.  They provided a decent service and price but spammed the heck out of me.  It was hard to sort out what was just offers to buy more and what was pertinent.  Their rate went up the second year and then they lowered new subscribers rates even more.  The thing that really burned me was they “upgraded” my package without my permission and charged my card.  It was impossible to get a hold of them; I finally called my CC company to cancel the bill.  I did some research; they have a reputation for this kind of BS.

Now I use Bluehost
They offer
Free domain registration (1 domain).
50 Gigs of web space
999 Gigs of transfer a month
And here’s the best part: host 6 domains on 1 account.  (I have 3 so far on mine and it works well)
When I got started I used their help; they have 3 different means.  I used I live chat type of thing and took care of my issues within minutes.
They have a variety of web statistics viewers.
Download speeds always seem great.
They also offer a bunch of other stuff I’ll never use and don’t even understand as well.

All for only $7 a month!

The only downside I’ve seen yet is my site has been down twice in the past few months.  Each time it was only down for a short time.

I highly recommend them.  Great service, fantastic price.

I just looked at what ramzey recommended; that looks great.  A lot of providers place banners on all their customers’ pages; watch out and read the fine print.  Look at example pages as well.  If ramzey can confirm that they don’t place ads on your pages and confirm that they are reliable, his recommendation looks good as well.
