Thank goodness for cell phones
« on: November 05, 2006, 11:59:22 PM »
As much as I hate carrying mind around, I thought I better take mine tonight.

Today was my 37th birthday and we thought we'd all go out to dinner to celebrate.  My girlfriend and I piled into my parents car and headed up I-95 to our local Bugaboo Creek.

Not far up the highway, we spotted a man on the side of the road, next to his vehicle, collapse.  My father parked the vehicle, hit the hazzard lights and headed up there.  The guy was disoriented, he wasnt moving around a lot, just spaced out from passing out.  He felt woosey and seemed to be relaxed.  I was on the phone with 911  giving as much info as possible.  A minute later, an off duty EMT was there, getting the guys vitals and took over on my phone giving the operator more info.

We were literally 50 yards from the exit, which is 500 yards from the hospital.  Im just so glad we were able to help this guy literally seconds after collapsing, calling for help, getting an off duty EMT, then this guy loaded into the ambulance 4 minutes later.

So for all those times I complain about the kids and their annoying ring tones...Im awful glad I had the thing on me.

I dont know if the guy just had the flu bug going around or its a heart issue (he'd had a valve replaced a year prior and had taken his medications).  I wish I could say this ended good or bad...I just dont know.

Sigh!
