Old guy giving AH another whirl...
« on: November 07, 2006, 06:38:26 PM »
I have been watching the Combat Tour development progress  (stop laughing!) for some time now and in anticipation of a game release sometime over the horizon I want to give AH a fresh start. I figure many years out of practice dictates I get started now on the game setup and such and start practicing less I be even more worthless cannon fodder....

So,  I download the game and the hi-res art and install it all.  Next, figure out how to make my older track-ir work.  Next,  program up the Saitek X45 stick and throttle.

What after that?

What sound pack should I get?   Are there add-on effects for smoke, flame and such that are better than stock?  What other add-ons should I get?

Any tips appreciated....

Welcome back! :)

What after that?

Come on in, the water is juuust fine...... :t Join in the fun and play target for all those meanie red icons out there :D.....

Seriously, if you need to shake off some rust, dont hesitate to stop by the Training Arena. If you dont run across a trainer, your highly likely to find a longtime player to tango with. If you have questions and or trouble setting your stuff up: http://trainers.hitechcreations.com for some writeups, the Help&Training Forum a little above this one for screaming bloody murder why this or that dont work and what to do to get the ***** to do *****. Or you can email us trainers @ hitechcreations.com.

What sound pack should I get?

Depends on your tastes. Me personally prefer Waffles... its rather unobtrusive and mostly historical. Mitsus is also a longtime AH Classic. Frudas, Ranger, Twinboom, Sketch.... the list is pretty long :). I recommend checking out the Custom Sounds & Skins Forum below for links and info on the different sound packs.

One note on those though..... Skuzzy recommends sticking to default sounds when you use onboard sound chip.

Are there add-on effects for smoke, flame and such that are better than stock?  What other add-ons should I get?

Even though i *swear* someone smuggled a "P38 extra smoke and flaming"-pack on my HDD, there are no add ons to AH (except the sound packs and the many player submitted skins that are available for download in game or on the homepage).

Any tips appreciated....

I prefer Mitsu's sounds for most of them, but I have picked from many different sound packs for the ones I like the best.

You mean the original trackir? Should work fine.

Waffles sound pack is pretty good, if you don't like all the sounds just download all the packs and make your own custom one. No addon effects, unless you I said too much sry hitech.

Fangio >> was wondering what steed is your preference....

NOTE; Schatzi, my 38 rarely burns... as it is hard to sell singed 38 parts.
So I am the proud perveyor of a 38 in 58 pieces... we in the 80th call it seeding :huh

Isn't that part of the starting procedure for the 38G?

Jeez, no one tells me anything anymore! :)

I did die in my 38G in a new and interesting way the other day.  I popped up on the runway to take off and saw the vulcher in the rear view.  As I was rolling I kicked rudder and dug in a wing on the runway to slow down and get out.  I was going too fast and I started to go up on my nose, with the tail high.   The LA driver then managed to ram me while I was still on the ground :)

I died, he kept flying.  No idea how he managed that when it said he rammed me :)

Fang, you need to make sure you have Track IR with VECTOR.  If you have the original it will work OK but it is very limiting in your views etc..

BALSY!!!

sorry....I had a AW flashback. I'll be ok now. This is what happens when you stay away for too long, and only visit intermittently.

I have figured out that my old style non-vector TrackIR pretty much sucks for AH.  It will work....  but only with a fixed central head position. So my 6 view is the headrest with no looking behind.

Im also having some wierd sound issues, but have not attemped to fix as yet. Then there is the need to get all the stick and keymapping programmed and all....  Im lazy.

I reckon at some point here I will order up one of the latest/greatest TrackIRs. Im in no hurry as Combat Tour is what I am interested in.

Back in the day I was a FW-190 jocky.  JG26 founder in WB back in the beta days. Now Im just an old fart who hasnt got a clue!
