Hi All,
The problem is fixed. HiTech gave me some outstanding help today and diagnosed it as a sick directx file. He talked me through a full download of directx7.0a and after it was installed, no more problem. I have been able to get back on and fly once again. Thanks to all who posted with hints. If anyone lelse runs into this error, try a new directx download and install.
MUCH THANKS HiTech!!
