I don't see why everyone thinks this is so funny. I'd LOVE to shoot splinters at the La-7 on my 6!  :lol

I'm going to state the many reasons not to do this, but in a much gentler tone than most other people probably will.

  • this was a one-off event
  • these were specially modified B-25s, of a version that we do not have in the game, and many of their guns were replaced with broom handles
  • what would this actually add to the game?
  • it might be fun, but there's so many other things that would almost certainly be more fun (e.g. entirely new planes in my opinion)

The modifications didn't help the Mitchells get off the deck, they only added a bombbay fuel tank and cheap bombsight.

No guns were removed.  The broomhandles were stuck in the tail to make it look as if they had tailguns.

they actaully needed lots of modifications to get it off deck, they removed the guns as well. In the actuall raid, 2 planes almost hit the water taking off, thats how close it was

I myself have landed the B25 on the cv in the game, backed it up, rearmed, and launched again. Maybe i can see if our squad command will post the video we have of us doing this. AKbmbzwy had the idea and after a few tries in the TA it's not that difficult to do.

Just because a plane can take off from a CV doesn't mean it gets to do it all the time. Heck I mean a fully loaded C130 can land and take off from a CV without moving.

Ah, forgot about the ventral turret.  However they added 320 gallons of fuel in two different tanks plus loaded up 10 5-gallon cans.  The added fuel (2220 pounds) more than made up for the 600 pound reduction of the ventral turret removal -- takeoff weight ended up being around 31,000 pounds.

One of the airplanes that almost hit the water was the #7 airplane flown by Ted Lawson.  He was afraid of the prop blast damaging the flaps so he raised them before takeoff.  IIRC the other guy forgot his flaps.

:huh Show me film of a C130 launching from a cv without moving because i don't believe it. Maybe with JATO's yes, but fully loaded and a catapult shot, naaaa i'd have to see it to believe it.

Hmmm, well IIRC well a modern carrier moves just a tad over the Herc's VS0 so I guess it's plausible.
I know they can land and reup in the some very tight places. I've even seen them do it on a football field.
