DirectX SDK made my Aces High time go BSD
« on: November 02, 2001, 01:26:00 PM »
I've already posed this question to support but thought I'd ask others as well.

Downloaded and played with the MS DirectX SDK, lots of good examples and tutorials.  I had it install and set to debug mode.  Had my fun, wanted to play Aces.

Boom, blue screens of death.

Hmm, maybe Aces dont like Debug mode, etc.  Set that to "Retail" version.  Reboot.  Go try Aces, assuming it (or my PC) didnt like debug mode (even though the demos and such I ran all worked great).  More blue screens.

Uninstall the SDK.  Try Aces.  Boom, blue screen.

Hmmm.

Reinstall Directx 8, reboot (to be sure) and try Aces.  Blue Screen.

So much for playing Aces on my Development machine  :(

Ideas?

BSD always says VXD in WIN32 (05) and some mention the DDHELP as well.

Hello LePaul

I had the same thing happen too me.

My game was ok with the newest version of DX and ah version 1.08 patch4

Replaced my voodoo3/2000 video card with the nivida geforce2 mx400 and then got the blue screen of death.

Looked for and installed the lastest drivers for my video card now I'm ok.

Pokie

Well, I looked around and found the re-distributable version of DirectX 8 in my WISE folder and did a re-install with that.  The DX8 etc etc file I had from Microsoft wouldnt force a reboot and DXDiag said all was well.  Once I did the reinstall with the redist I was prompted to reboot and then Aces began to work again.

Id really like to have the SDK back in there, tho.  Did you have it in debug mode?  I have some code in Delphi that really needs it back in there.  Sigh...perhaps I better plan on gaming on an entirely different machine than my development one

LePaul,..that DDHELP message usually comes from video drivers that were not cleaned out before.  Go into DXDIAG and see how many video cards DX registered.  I bet there is more than one and this would be the problem.
