Tempest/Typhoon changing tags
« on: November 14, 2006, 01:00:15 AM »
Typhoons and Tempests will change tags during midflight.
I've observed enemy Typhoons magically become a Tempest after getting close enough.
It's screwed me over a few times too because at times I knew my aircraft would outrun a Typhoon, only to discover the Typhoon gaining on me (and I'm saying outloud, WTF?!) and at about 2km the tag changes to Tempest (at which point I say #%$@!!!) and then I die.

Great.

This is not a bug, thats just how the icon system works.  Surely you must have noticed it's this way with all aircraft.  Any distance greater than 800 and it just gives you the basic make (spit, p47, f4u etc...) once they get in close the icon changes to be more specific.

You must be confused.

A) Don't try and run from temp/tiff, you'll lose

B) It changes around 600-800 or closer

C) You will notice this, especially with spits. (# ID will appear)

D) 2km? rofl hacker :P K is measured in meters so I presume meters, you must mean 200meters which is odd, should be 600-800

Outside 800 yards, its the general type of aircraft, inside 800 you get the exact plane type. This is only true for enemy (red) icons though.... friendlies always show the exact plane type.

So, for example both Typhoon and Tempest show as TYPH, La7 and La5 both show as LA, P40B and P40E both show as P40, etc....

Some other, not immediatly obvious combos are:

TA 152 - shows as 190
FM2 - shows as F4F
BostonIII - shows as A20
(im sure i forgot some, but cant think of any more right now)
21 is only half the truth.

Best thing HT ever did was the generic tags outside of 800m.

Nothing like chasing an La7 in a "Tiffy" only for him to realise at <800 its a Tempest.

Would probably take it one step further -
All generic tags, all the time, no specific ones, i.e. Spit always shows Spit not Spit IX/VIII etc.

Asus M3N-HT mobo
2 x 2Gb Corsair 1066 DDR2 memory

I was in a Tiff.
I'm not confused, just misinformed and in some cases not informed at all.

Ain't no thing fwoggy, if I wasn't bright enough to even notice how the icons worked I'd probably have that chip on my shoulder too.

Wow that was just below the belt.
Do you normally take pleasure in putting other fellow players down like that?

Get over yourself.

LOL, You posted about a bug, I let you know it wasn't and then went on to elaborate for your possible benefit, and you come back with an attitude.  Don't go crying foul on me Francis.

Shouldn't you be flying buffs like 18 sectors on a failed HQ raid, or screwing a pig, or making a kids show with some guys hand up your butt?  Get off my ankle fanboi..:D
