This will be an interesting test case. The local government stopped short of cracking down on employers of illegal immigrants but enacted enough to push the envelope. It will be very interesting to see where the federal courts stand should they become involved. I suspect there will be much national effort to negate this cities attempt to control illegal immigration without actually addressing the laws involved.

I wrote to finestien here in kalifornia about mandatory sentances for those who hire illegal aliens..

she said that craking down on the employers was a bad idea because it has been shown that juries will not convict employers who hire "undocumented immigrants"

She seems to think that the sympathies of the people lie with the illegals and the people who hire them.

I think that you are on to something... no national or state politician is gonna anger the illegals and the employers... it has to be grass roots.

perhaps if we all turned in illegals all the time it would get some attention.

I think all they really want is for their small city (really just an extension of Dallas) to not become part of Mexico. I have nothing against Mexicans or hispanics that want to live in the US legally so long as they are willing to assimilate.

If your home were taken over by those unwilling to learn your language or adopt your customs would you simply give it away without response? Perhaps you feel you should be the one assimilated into the culture of those who come here illegally?

Farmers Branch has been run by nutjobs for years. They are not making some grand statement, they are just a bunch of nutjobs looking for attention.

Though I've lived not far from Farmer's Branch probably much longer than you rpm I can't answer the nut job comment, you may be right. That does not change the fact many cities in the US have been illegally invaded by our neighbors to the south not only imposing their language and culture upon us but also adding significantly to the burden on our social structure. If Farmers Branch is successful in their efforts I suspect many more will follow suit.

I was in a store the other day. There was an hispanic clerk at the counter. A lady walked in with her 2 children and walked up and began speaking Spanish. The clerk said "no habla espanol". The woman became indignant and said in perfect English "No one speaks Spanish here?". The clerk politely said no, and immediately the lady began transacting her business in English.

I've spent over 7 years in foreign countries. I learned some of the languages and never expected anyone to speak english. Growing up in Texas I've been around Mexicans most of my life, I'm not foreignerphobic. I believe that if the people coming here illegally were willing to blend into our cluture most of us would be willing to let them. It seems that as their numbers grow they are becoming militant in demanding that we adapt to them.

It's not just mexicans, although they are the ones that cause the most problems. I think we should just make mexico another state as it's obvious their government is less than capable. They arrest folks who cross their southern border and yet tell us to let their people cross unhindered.

Illegals have no rights under our constitution....... we should not allow them in hospitals or schools.

When I lived in South America... legally, my parents had to pay $2000.00 each for me and my brother to go to an english school.

Here in Texas some illegals walked out of class... lowered the US flag and raised the mexican flag at the school....

Arm yourselves we are being invaded!

Then you should know that tire repair shops were banned by the same city council in the late 80's. They were nutbags then, they're still nutbags today.

I am sitting in FB right now at work. I can walk out the front door and throw a rock at an NTW place. Farmers Branch has no more of its share of nutbags in gumbamint than Addison or Carrollton.
On this issue, even if it is attention potato time, it is an issue that needs to be addressed sooner than later.

Maybe they finally repealed that ordinance. You used to have to drive to Carrollton to get a flat fixed. Tire repair shops were considered "unsightly".
