The National Museum of the Marine Corps opened Monday near Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, about 30 miles south of the White House.
Drive along I-95 and you can't miss its Iwo Jima abstract flag pole above the tree tops. The entrance is off U.S. Hwy 1.
There was a fine museum at Quantico before, but it was a long, winding drive through the base to a few one-story buildings that nevertheless had fine exhibits.
The new museum is world class in presentation and collection. Free admission, free parking, and mesmerizing information.
Make sure you visit it sometime. It's worth a special trip, and of course the many other Washington attractions all add up to a max pleasure/growth experience.
Oh, and don't miss the National Museum of the Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio (can't miss my service plug).
