15% of my flights end in disco's
« on: November 06, 2000, 06:24:00 PM »
That's right... 15%. All of them either complete system freezes, or AH crashed to desktop. I've read this forum in interest trying to get a clue what is going on... I don't have problems with any programs other than Aces High.

System specs:
Athlon Thunderbird 800
FIC SD-11 M-Board NC611 Bios (latest)
128 Meg PC 133 Ram
ASUS V7700 GeForce 2GTS 32 Meg Vid (not overclocked) with latest ASUS drivers (Det drivers had blue shearing problem)
SB-Live (latest drivers)
Junky 56K Winmodem

Sound is not on same IRQ as modem. Nothing overclocked... extra fans already in place. Anyone have any clues at all?

Kills me to take 1/2 to get a bomber to alt just to have AH freeze when nearing target or to be in the middle of a dogfight and lock up. I looked at disco stats on the scores pages... and it is obvious some people are having problems with lockups... and others are not. If HTC had our system specs, that info combined with their flight and disco stats would make for some pretty easy trouble shooting I think.

Thanks in advance.

Per an old post by HiTech... I slid the hardware acceleration slider back a notch on my GeForce. On night down and no lockups so far.

What do you have for a power supply?  It needs to be at least a 300 Watt, and a good quality one.  That's one of the most power thirsty setups you can build.

Are you overclocking at all?  The CPU that is.

It has been common for AH to be THE toughest app you run.  Many folks have fixed their problems with a new power supply, or by turning their OC down a notch.  Even when other games work OK, it doesn't necessarily mean that AH itself is the culprit.

Failing that, the junky 56K Winmodem could be a spoiler.

Are you sharing any resources or IRQ's?  What slots are your PCI/AGP devices in?  Are there two PCI devices in the last two slots?

Powersupply is Deer 300W. Can't check the model # right now...

No devices are sharing IRQ's.

I have a list of a ton of things to try with the GeForce cards that are having lockup trouble... and will try them each. It's already running in AGP 1X.

Nothing in my system is overclocked.

I heard people mentioning last night that RW causes lockups? Has anyone else heard this? I always have RW on... though I don't always use it.
