LOD still not right
« on: November 21, 2006, 01:38:42 AM »
I'm still getting below 10 FPS anywhere below 4k. The LOD change might have fixed certain things, but didn't fix this. It's the trees. Whatever you did changed the way the trees (and all the little details and stuff) displays.

If I can get up past the range that trees display my FPS instantly skyrockets back to normal. If I hit Shift F3 (short vis) and all the trees disappear I skyrocket back to normal pre-2.09 FPS rates, only before 2.09 I'd get these rates WITH trees showing.

Please double-check the code. It's impossible to dogfight in 10 FPS. It's impossible to find a fight that doesn't end up on the deck.

what video card drivers u using?  We virtually have the same comparable system, my video card is better though.  I have the 7900GT 256 meg.  I maintain 50-75 fps at 1280x1024x32 at 8sxAA at 512 texture size and sliders full left down in the trees.

I currently using the latest drivers from nvidia and I preload everything skins included.

Krusty: Somthing else is up with your system. In Graphic detail setup hit the default button, and make sure optimization is on, then Full vis range setting should have you not drop below 50 or so.

Also in video settings from the top menu make sure Hardware Vertex processing is checked.

I changed nothing from 2.08, but when the new patches came out it looked different. The way the trees were displaying was... how do I describe it... "crisp". Like I was 2 feet away looking at them with ground vis on, but this from 10k above the ground.

Last night I actually did go in and click "default" on the sliders. It didn't help much at all (just a few FPS).

I really don't want to do a full fresh install again. I may have to, though. It's annoying to have to do that. I literally changed nothing at all in any settings inside or outside Aces High.

EDIT:

P.S. I'm using Det 93.71, and have always had animated water off.

Oh, PS, I've been too busy to follow up here, but I did a fresh install and it fixed all the problems.

Also have read several posts from folks that said the patch system screwed something up, and by downloading the full install and reinstalling they fixed this.

Did you totally uninstall AH, then reinstall?

Or did you reinstall over top of your original install?

I went to "HTC" directory, renamed "Aces High II" to "Aces High 2" and installed fresh. Then I took the files I wanted from "Aces High 2" and copied them to the new "Aces High II". Then deleted the "2" when I was done with it.
