I need help making avatars
« on: November 26, 2006, 07:13:57 AM »
Hello.  I would appreactiate any and all help in this matter.  Here is my issue......

I have found a couple of pics that I would like to use for avatars on this and also another Board that I am on.  However the pics that I have chosen to use are to large.  So I opened the first pic using "Paint" and went to the help section and read about resizing a pic.

It says go to "Image" then go to "Attributes" then a menu comes up listing the height and width of the picture.  In the case of my first pic it is 481x255 pixels.  I need to make it 200x200.  Is this possible without chopping the edges off the pic?  Here is the pic....

Now using paint I change the height and width pixels to 200x200 and this is what I get....

It quickly became obvious to me that I need help.  Am I going about this the wrong way?

Also does anyone know where I can find good pic materal for avatars?  I have done multiple searches and only come up with a few good pics.  I know what I am looking for I just cant seem to find it.

I want a pic like this one only with a 51D in classic 51 colors.  Or even better the Bud Anderson "Old Crow"......

Any ideas?  Thx

Dave

http://www.irfanview.com

Its freeware, opens every graphic file known to mankind that I'm aware of, will save to most including windows icon files.

Load image in irfanview, on top menu bar click image, down to resize resample, set size you want, save.

It won't clip parts off like paint.

If you want an animated gif you'll have to get some gif animatino software like gif construction set pro, or coffecup animator.

You can't change it to 200 x 200 and still maintain proportions. You can crop it so it looks likes this: (200 x 122)

Or, here is 200 x 200 :D

I've gotten a lot of use out of another open source program, The GIMP.

Linky[/color

It has enormous power, and seems to have everything I hear about from the users of commercial graphics programs. But I use it for simple things mostly...and you cant beat the price. I've been picking up stuff as I go, and I've got nothing but praise for it.
