SAT Pingage....
« on: November 26, 2006, 09:35:49 AM »
Stupid question # 2....(See the processor overclocking psot for #1)

I have a sat isp, and get pings of about 900-1600.....is there any way to reduce this? I have had no one accuse me of cord pulling...and I don't get alot of other players warping ( except when EVERYONE see's one certian player warp.)

DazyCutter has shot me down a few times () and I've never had him or any other player say anything......

INput?

Well, high ping rates in itself are usually not much of a problem if the connect is STABLE (ie no packets are lost). You might experience small amounts of lag (ie geting shot from "funny angles").

Apart from that, im not sure how you could improve your ping rates, short of changing ISP/connect type. I dont think its possible.

Satellite connections are notoriously bad for online gaming. Only thing to do is to change to another kind of connection. You'll probably do better with pure dialup or isdn.

I gamed for a while /w a 56K dial-up, and it didn't work out very well. Every time someone would close to about 400D they'd tell me I was warping. It was the worst in the DA.
I cna not get cable or DSL due to where I live. WAAAAYYY out in the boonies. Guess I'm just stuck /w Sat.

I have a Sat connection that I use to surf, but would never consider flying on it. (yes I tried)

With sat. you get 'bout a second instant delay (1/2 sec up, 1/2 sec down) plus whatever delay you get from your connection.

REALLY unflyable.

Granted, most of my flying depends on timing, and lagging a second or two is gonna affect me quite a bit.  I found on the Sat. connection the nme's were hitting me when I did my merges.  I got ho'd quite a bit more, and generally hated it.

Dial up is the way to go.

No reason you can't get a 200ms ping or under with dial up, AND a much more stable connection.

After tweaking my modem (init. strings, drivers, etc) I tend to get from 140ms to 170ms depending on the number I use, and quite stable.
