If HITECH offered..
« on: November 27, 2006, 07:01:53 PM »
If Hitech offered 2 free months to the author of every published/playable Map from the community we would have much better variation in the game.

I really like the new setup but bad maps ruin it.  We need more maps and this may be the incentive required.

Maybe, or maybe the quality of maps in rotation would decrease?

Otherwise, a GREAT idea, why didnt i think of it?:huh

Read back through the old posts in response to new maps when they were introduced into the MA in AH1 and AH2 and then tell me why anyone would want to.

wierd since most of the old maps are better than any of the new ones that came out around AH2.. of course not counting the best map of them all PIZZA! which was introduced around the time the rocket, bomber formations, and the calibrated bombsite came out.. i believe they came out the smae day during a con.. but i could be wrong.. foggy memories :D

I posted this on here, "O"Club, and Terrain Editors, last month with not much feed back...but here we go....sorry mods for the repost, but it's applicable....

Many players would LOVE to see a a situation where any given map may only show up one week a month.

From what we hear from HTC, they are working on it.

I've done marketing all my life, and have an idea that would give HTC many more NEW maps, and basically cost them jack...

A) Contest. Publish the requirements, specifications, and criteria in advance and give players a 2 to 3 month deadline. Allow players to submit a maximum of three maps. Provide a big enough "carrot" of 4 months free play for the grand prize winner, three months for second place, two months for third place, and runners up who get their maps used by HTC get one month free, and all get nice kudos on the AH website.

B) University Programmers. Pretty much the same "carrot" as above but turn the project over to a trusted university computer programming department. Make sure your Director of Marketing throws in an off campus  pizza and beer party when he's making the pitch. Same prizes....AND....just maybe some gifted soul just might find a career with HTC after graduation!

This makes sure there are an influx of maps, yet, doesn't tie up HiTech's programmers to have to do it. The "carrots" are pretty inexpensive, considering.

With all the new members expected over the coming months, RETENTION will be the key to HTC's success....and fresh maps will be instrumental in getting those new arrivals to stay...and play.

HiTech--If I can help with the marketing, just drop me a line!

Funny, I didn't read the 'asw' at the bottom at first. Now, I know where you are coming from....been there, done that. :)

A bit of advice to anyone deciding to work on an MA map. No matter what you do, just like anything else in Whiner's High, someone will complain about it. So, do it for yourself and make damned sure you are ready for the fecal storm that will appear here right after its release. :D

No offense to anybody, but I dont log in to Aces High for the maps.

A map is so inconsequential as it relates to to Air combat. I dont see that having 50 more maps is going to make one "interested " in air combat, or even ground for that matter.

When it comes down to it, the fun revolves looking through the gunsite, not staring at the nice map on the clipboard.

Especially in ground combat, the design of a map is very important.
Location and number of VFields and especially the layout of vehicle spawns make big of a difference in GV combat possibilities. The current maps do certainly lack a lot of GV options some old bigger ones had.

My advise Dont work for free

We all know HTC poor  but dont let them take advantage of your hard work to line there pockets and further there product for nothing

Id  say a map Is worth 2 year sub.  Thats just 360USD Not even a weeks pay

True words and better spoke than mine NB :D.

Keeler:
Having built a few terrains for AH I have a fair handle on how much effort and time a contributor puts in to build one and even a free two-year subscription doesn't come anywhere close to covering the real costs. Once a terrain builder starts looking at it from a commercial point of view building terrains ceases to make any sense whatsoever. I wouldn't even consider building one for a two-year subscription to AH from that POV. And from HTC's point of view, the positive effect a new terrain can have on the bottom line doesn't add up to a business case for buying them.
Players who build terrains do so for their own reasons and financial rewards aren't generally even a consideration.
