Ok, here's what is happening.

When I connect to AH via my dial up (I use windows dial up to connect to ATT) I am having a very serious issue.

After I am connected to AH for a bit, roster loads, net stat smooths out, etc, my screen freezes for 10-15 seconds.  Then, after a few min, it freezes again.  Most of the time I lose UDP, sometimes I  don't.  It happens in the tower, field gun, or in flight.

Just for kicks I connected wirelessly to a broadband cable connection and went launched AH.  I didn't have the lock up/freeze.

WHAT could be causing this?  Why would my dial up connection suddenly freeze AH for 10-15 seconds?  I ran a ping plot to the MA using 6 diff. connection #'s for ATT, and while most of them are changing route alot, and maybe 9% packet loss on one hop on one number, all in all they were no worse than usual, or at the least were not that far out of the norm.

Earlier today, after two freezes, I didn't have any more problems, and was able to fly for a bit.  I have had as many as 3 freezes a couple min. apart.   I generally log at that point, as I have lost UDP, and I can't fly on only TCP.

PLEASE give me any suggestions, tips, or what I need to give you info wise to help you diagnose this issue.

THANKS!!

Have you tried just to reset the Modem?

Sounds like the modem might be re-training after connecting.  Try connecting to the Internet, surf a few minutes, then launch AH.

It could also be background processes eating away at your connection (i.e. spyware/malware).

5 anti spyware, and 2 anti virus programs later I am still at a loss.

I even installed a diff. modem, and am having the same issues.

Dusted off an old HD, Fdisk/Formated it, loaded fresh windowns install.

Was bzy today, but 2morrow should have all the drivers updated and AH ready to go on it.

I am putting NOTHING on the HD but drivers, windows, and AH.

We'll see what happens.

Lute, if the modem is re-training, there is nothing you can do to the computer to correct that.  Modems do re-train.  Almost all of them connect at too high an initial speed, then have to re-adjust the speed of the connection to reduce bit errors.

If you set the modem to connect no faster than 33.6K, it probably will cure the retrains.

One thing you can do is call the phone company and complain about having connection issues with your FAX.  They have to respond to that complaint.  A remote line test usually gets the signal boosted a bit.  This helps to stabilize the phone line signal.

This all assumes the modem is re-training.

The retraining wasn't an issue for the past 5 months.  I put in a DIFF. modem and it too is having issues.

I can toss in the below string, and limit it to v.34.

AT&FX-v90=0S38=0S28=1 (Basic init + disable v.90, disable k56flex, enable v.34)

FYI, I have tried AH at lower speeds, and still have the same "problems".

I will let you know how it all works on the new/fresh HD I just formated.
