new tank
« on: November 28, 2006, 04:29:19 PM »
I just saw a TV show on tanks, the M18 hellcat, yayaya not the plane the tank.It would be a nice addition,75 mm, 50 mph and little or no armour. Apparently it was used as a tank destroyer, hmmm 2 hellcats VS 1 tiger might make a good GV fight. It use a special AP round, shaped charge, knocked out panzer with 1 round...................

I agree that we need something else in the vehicle arena, and the Tank Destroyer would be a welcome addition.  I served in many theaters, and the old line up is getting a little stale.

I also agree. I havent been playing that long but the GV list is getting old. I like the Hellcat idea. May i suggest faster vehicles also like the Kubelwagen(German Jeep), maybe the experimental KING TIGER TANK, a self propelled artillery gun, or maybe even an M2 Bradley fighting vehicle(JUST KIDDING). But I do recommend a Kubelwagen and Self Propelled Artillery Vehicle.:) IF NOT :) + :( + :cry + = :furious  (completely pissed off)

The HELLCAT never mounted a 75mm gun.

It always mounted versions of the more powerful M1 Main Gun Armament of 76mm or the later 76.2mm which was derived from the 3" naval gun.

Would be nice to have the Hellcat on the vehicle list though if we are picking Tank Destroyers - I would rather have the 90mm M36B1 JACKSON myself.  A little slower but the 90mm "Tiger Killer" would make it well worth while.   :aok

Appears the "Sarcasm" button is working fine.  ;)

He's a "Newb" - cut him a little slack. We were all there once. At least he didn't ask for a B-29.

Just had an idea....how about when you try to start a thread in the wishlist forum, you have to either seach for and dig up a old thread or are locked out from posting for 20 min or so?

This was this awsome tank web site, with like 15 countries who built tanks during WW2. There was a tank I saw take on a tiger in a town on a video. I think it was a M24, or M26 not sure.

Is that the one where the camera man is just behind the american tank?

You can see the shots actually punch through the Panthers (i think it was) side armor.  Amazing little video, saw the interview with either the gunner or tank commander, they said it was burning for days after.

The rounds hit with enough force that the area just around the hole was glowing.

I think it was a M26 Pershing hunting that Panther in city rubble, was an amazing fight from what I remember.

edit

Found the video from the 3rd AD, the panther picked off that sherman earlier in the video then they brough up the pershing to take care of the panther.  This one was edited a bit, you don't see the gunner from the sherman falling off and trying to walk back toward the camera man missing his right leg.  Some of the crew from the panther actually made it out without a scratch.  Here is the video, the panther is right near the end.  The pershings gunner said he put 5 or 6 shots into that panther.  Tough little buggers.

video

shorter version of the panther getting pwnd

Thank you Zorstorer, that was the film I was talking about. That one with the 3rd Armourd Division had some good quality film for its day. Thats the kinda a tank we need in AH to take care of those tigers and panzers.

Trying to remember the story.

I think he (the gunner) basically said it was who ever was faster with the first good shot.  I think the panther fired first but missed, his shot didn't ;)

I'm glad that shot missed or else they would have sent in another tank, then another, and another, then they would finally say, Pvt. Run up to that tank and place this statchel charge in it! Yes Sir!
