Track IR compatibility
« on: November 23, 2006, 10:34:28 AM »
My track IR works fine in the game, except when I try to look directly up.  It will pan up about 45 degrees, then jump to a 6 oClock view.  Anyone else have this problem or know how to resolve it?

Also, is there any way to lock in certain views?  For example, its hard to check six in a P51 with the seat there.  Using Track IR I have to look behind, then tilt my head to see past the seat.

Thanks

Thanks, but that doesn't really describe my problem.  Maybe its the way I wear my hat, but I can't seem to get a vertical view, that is, 90 degrees up.  I go about 45-50 and then it flips to the 6 view.

Good idea about sitting lower when you first centre it though, that should help somewhat with the 6OC view.  It was getting annoying turning about then leaning to see behind the plate.

1st->u can't look 6 o'clock if u look up with track ir. 90degree or little more backward is limited. otherwise must be something wrong about the machine or the driver. check out the application that u turn on to use it.

2nd->if ur trackir is 6dof, that is impossible. just try to get used to it. i am still akward to check around with it

If you are not getting full vertical, you have is mis-centered, or you are moving out of the devices viewing range.   First be sure you can see all three dots in the track ir software as you look up.  If thats all good, make sure you have the TIR angled to face you correctly, if its above your head be sure you angle it down a bit (as if you had it looking directly down at you.)  With TIR4 the field of view is great, with TIR 3 you need to be sure the unit is at least 2-3 feet away from you.  Otherwise the limited FOV will cause one of the dots to go outside the sensors range very easily.

Once you have all that correct, if you are still having a problem, you need to recenter the TIR and or wear the hat at a better angle.

The guys are right about making sure you're wearing your track hat correctly and setting up the sensor.  When you do recenter lean just a little bit forward and also look down just a bit.  With that center your resting line of sight look slightly up which means you need less head movement to get the view all the way to 90deg up.  If all this doesn't help with the up view then go to your TIR profile and check your pitch axis settings.

The key is the ratio of actual head movement to the virtual head movement.  If your profile is not agressive enough you may be having to look too high with your head to get the virtual head looking straight up and the sensor is losing track of the upper reflector.  My pitch axis is set like this: (position:value)    0:3, 2:3, 5:19, 10:31, 20:40, 30:45, 40:50, 40:53.

Also when checking six, you'll rapidly get used to just leaning a bit to the side to see around the headrest especially if you use the centering technique of leaning slightly forward.  You'll eventually find TIR is much better than the pre-set views since you can only set the pre-set to look down one side while with TIR you can shift from the right to the left easily.  If you want to you can also still use your POV hat switch but it doesn't go to the position you store with F10. It'll face you directly aft and then you can shift from side to side with TIR.

Problem solved.  I wasn't leaning in and lowering my head before hitting F12 to centre it.  Once I had this resolved everything was working flawlessly and before I knew it I forgot I was wearing it completely.  It feels so natural now.

Thanks for the tip.

two Monitors!

I received the TrackIr and very impressed! of course, we all are in a quest to purfect!!! the game!!
My current graphics card supports (2) Monitors! Too bad AH doesnt support this! But, You can have cloned Monitors! I did find the difference between night and day having the cloned monitors with the TrackIR!
When I do move my head I dont have to keep my eyes on the screen!
Even though you do move your head to look left or right the monitor is still straight ahead! but with the second monitors you can move your head with you eyes.
I also enjoy the MSN flight SimX. the SImX supports dual monitors and you can really appreicate the TrackIR!
You guys were right about NOT USING the HAT SWITCH@!!! You have to get use to the TrackIR!!!

I tell ya, you all have it so easy!  Back in the day (snowing...uphill both ways etc)...when TIR first came out it was awsome, but because it only tracked a single point, leaning was just like turning your head....which sounds fine until you realize just how dang sensitive it was LOL.  Used to take 1-2 months of intense work to get reasonable results....but with vector, and the larger view angles for TIR4...its a 2 day stint and it starts feeling natural.

If you do not have TIR, have a love for flight sims, and can get a few hundred $$$ together...do yourself a favor, and get one.
