I've had Vista RC1 running for awhile on a "test" machine. For the first time I'm going to stay away from a new MS OS for awhile. At some point I'll be sort of forced to get it because of the need for intimate knowledge for my work but will probably be using it in a dual boot configuration with XP for quite a while. Its a resource hog. Unknowing consumers who install it on yesterday's hardware are destined for a big shock. I can hear the howling now. And I really don't see business users instantly flocking to it either. Even if it had no problems large businesses are not going to drop a mass of $$$ just to have the latest OS, especially considering that in alot of cases to do so would necessitate a much larger expenditure to upgrade their hardware too.

I'm gonna sit this one out for home use for a while. It'll be interesting to just sit back and watch.

Unbelieveable. What will Microsoft do when Apple runs out of ideas? It's OSX five years ago with less features at 3 to 4 times the price.

Even the Zune is a failed Toshiba MP3 player that has been recycled and rebranded.

Microsoft has achieved critical mass - it looks and acts like a government bureaucracy.

No kidding Roscoroo.... I'm running the 64-bit XP on my game machine, but driver issues and lack of support for it becomes a problem at times.  Best security I found for it comes through Avast.  Nothing main stream seems to like 64-bit in the Windows world.  Hopefully Vista will have better support than Win-XP64, but I would not count on it for a year or more.  No reason to hurry an upgrade.

But, I've got mine pretty stable over the last year.  Only 1 reinstall so far (knock on wood), and otherwise does 95% of what I want it to do.

Now.... time to find a job in a Mac or Linux shop......

It's not actually my desktop, just an example from Crystal XP.net, but my desktop looks similar. The developers are French.
