Windows Explorer ( Not Internet Explorer)
« on: November 30, 2006, 10:27:16 AM »
Good morning all,

When I open windows explorer it always defaults with Drive C:\ expanded. I remember soon after installing XP Pro that I found an option to show that drive expanded in the view when first opening windows explorer but I don't remember where. I have searched, in vain, for quite some time now and cannot find it.

Knowing that there is a vast resource of computer knowledge on this BBS I thought to put the question to you guys.

What I want to do is be able to open windows explorer and not have any folders, drive or otherwise, expanded. Some may prefer other means of accessing folders and drives to view, modify, move, or otherwise administer thier files and that is great if it works for you but I really like to use windows explorer and would like to find a way to open it without any folders ( directories and drives ) expanded.

Can anyone give me some help with this?

Thanks in advance.

Mark

This what you're looking for?

Link didn't work so here's a paste:

By default, Windows Explorer opens showing the My Documents folder. To change the default setting so that all top–level drives and folders are shown, follow these steps:

1.
Click Start, point to Programs, then Accessories, then right–click Windows Explorer, and click Properties.

2.
Under Target field, which reads %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe, add to make the line read %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n, /e, /select, C:\

3.
 Click OK.

One thing I just noticed with that, it doesn't change the opening folder when you right click the start button and run explorer from there. You can copy the start-accessories-windows explorer to your desktop though.

If you remove the c:\ from the above explorer will open without expanding any drives.

Thanks lukster,

Removing the C:\ DID open C:\ but when I left the string as you originaly listed it  it worked as desired.

I really appreciate the help.
