NEW US Citizenship Test
« on: November 30, 2006, 10:52:45 PM »
The new Citizenship test will go beyond just answering the historical facts.  You will be asked to analyse...

That will, no doubt, make it difficult for them to explain complicated concepts related to the US political system in English - a language of which many of the immigrants have little more than a basic command.

I will not be surprised if your own natives can't answer this questions...

Name 2 rights that are only for US citizens

Why does the United States have 3 branches of government? -

The fourth branch was burned in the War of 1812 by the damned Mexicans

Name 2 rights that are only for US citizens-

The right to arm bears, and the right to not work hard

Name 2 cabinet-level positions-
Missionary and doggy..the rest has to be down at counter level

Name 1 important ideo found in the Declaration of Independence-  spam

What does the Constitution do?-
It determines how much power a character has in fantasy role playing games

Democracy is two wolves deciding on what to eat. Freedom is a well armed sheep protesting the vote.

Funnily enough, while I was back home in the UK a couple of weeks back I saw the UK's citizenship test. Apparently I'm not fit to call myself British.

Emigrants know more about the US than those of us that were born and raised here, mainly because if were born here, we don't have to take a test. If we had to have a test to be a citizen even though we were born here I'd have to learn another language.

I never had a problem reading, even up to this day.   Honestly, everyone should be required to take one in the US.

Thats because they actually study the stuff they're supposed to study, did I ever study in High school or middle school? Yea ok sure I did. Just not what I was supposed to study. Who really cares about govt except the suit wearing Republicans and Democrats?

I cant answer half of that, I feel pretty stupid, so I prepose a newer & better test.  All immigrants must quote and/or play the first minuet of "The Immigrant Song" by Led Zeppelin.  PROBLEM SOLVED. :D

Sadly, there was a time when all students were required to take a course on the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, the Preamble, and the Bill of Rights and pass it!  The words contianed within the Preamble were read, discussed, and every effort was made to insure those words were understood.  This was done with nearly every word contained there in!  Even why it was believed certain words were included rather then other words that had a similar meaning.  This too was done with the Declaration of Independence.

If my understanding is correct this is no longer the case.  In fact the teaching establishment in this country appears to be doing it's best to insure that few know or understand their rights.  The Preamble is rarely seen much less discussed.

Why the quatering of troops was singled out makes little sense to many now.
It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

Students today ARE getting instruction in Govt. usually it's in a class called Social Studies. It's widely considered by the students to be the most boring class in the school. It's taken and passed as teachers are under instruction to minimize the failure rates for the school. It's ignored by the student as in their limited experiance they do not see the relevence to them. That which is not the currrent fashion, rap song, car, hairstyle etc.etc. is not important to them because they KNOW they will be passed on to the next grade. Unfortunately it's the parents that have the biggest role in determining whether their little darlings actually learn something and they are frequently doing something more important to them than making sure the kids do their homework and study.

Classes on the Federal Govt. and State Govt. to include the constitutions for each are given in AZ. in the middle school level. "Refresher" classes are given in high school as the material is covered partially in the other Social Studies and history classes. It's basically a situation where you can take the horse to water but you can't make them drink. or more to the point, you can seat the kid in school, but you can't make them learn if they don't want to.

This is a wonderful example of the concern for school kids regarding govt. and history.  Who really cares about govt except the suit wearing Republicans and Democrats? If youcan't be bothered to care why should your kids? I'm not just picking on your DMF, you just provided the example.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."
