I like being able to light a gas fire and use it immediately, determine the cooking heat I want to use with a knob ( not black magic ) and be able to turn the dang thing off when I'm through.
I use a gas grill and a gas smoker. They both cook the way I want to cook because I can control the manner in which it cooks. I also use my grill and smoker much more than I would if I had to go through all that it takes to use charcoal or wood.
Before you ask, I have used charcoal and wood for years and poo-pooed the gas grills and smokers. Now that I have tried and used gas ( and electric ) I will never, ever, ever go back to using wood and charcoal unless it is the only thing available to me at the time.

Ditto..... The charcoal crowd are the ones that marinate the food in
lighterfluid and expect praise for fuel tasting dinner fare...
Usually called southern barbecue, the lighter fluid meal reminds these cretons of charcoal chest thumping nascar tailgating....
I will give them this, with charcoal every meal is a surprise on a weber...
I have a great picture of the weber falling over in the middle of 4th of july cookout... Never again!
