Windows 2000 Pro versus XP Pro

Which is best for gaming?

Currently have Windows 2000 Pro on my regular everyday boot drive and 2000 as well for a secondary "bare bones" boot drive for gaming.

Current system has two gigs of good ram, maybe will buy a 3rd. Gonna upgrade the CPU and Video card. MB is an Asus A8N-E, with an AMD 64 3800+  and Asus EN7800GTX video card. Thinking to go with the highest end single core CPU and an Asus EN8800GTX. Anyway, with that purchase along with a few other things I can get an OEM copy of Windows XP Pro for a good price.

Any real difference between Windows 2000 and XP Pro after you disable all the overhead? Does XP Pro offer better performance in terms of a bare bones, low overhead, gaming system?

...assuming both have all the updates.

I've not been able to find any good answers in searching the net.

Thanks

XP has slightly positive variation of performance between two.
