Sidewinder throttle problems....
« on: October 03, 2001, 04:25:00 AM »
Hi all.  I have a Sidewinder USB Precision Pro and I cannot get the dang throttle to work at all in AH.  I have it configured in AH for button 3 which is the throttle and of course I have gone through all the calibration routines.  It's puzzling to me cuz it works just fine in WB.  Also---this has forced me to use the -/+ to change throttle but it will not throttle all the way back which truly drives me nuts trying to land.  Any ideas would be appreciated thanks!

I have exactly the same stick, and in set up for both flight and global controls I have "none" selected as rpm control, which is the default (Never played with it).

Try either setting it to "NONE" in set up, or deleting the stick configuration file and starting again.

I also use the MS profile software, by the way.

Ok I did figure out the "main" problem.  I was using a standard game port driver when I should have been using my game theater driver.  The throttle does now work however it's acting more like a zero to full throttle versus any smooth transition as it should.  I'll try your suggestion as to having the rpm controls set to "none".

First, do you have the latest drivers for the stick from Microsoft?

Second, does it calibrate and test out properly in Windows?

I have the same stick and recently ive had another issue, nothing mayjor just annoying.

When ever i fly for the first time after launching the game with the throttle at 100% before take off the game does not see it as 100%, it just idle until i drop the throttle and put it back to 100. After that it is OK, but this is still annoying.

latest drivers, caliberates just fine, worked fine prior to this.

Anyone else got this problem?

That's a rgr on both Lephturn.  You wanna know something really funny though?  My Windows recognizes the Sidewinder in every respect including calibration but if you go into the Sidewinder program, it says "game controller not connected".  So I've never messed with that program--I've always been able to configure it through the game I'm playing (until AH).  Still having the transition problem though and haven't figured it out yet.  I've seen through the button setups in AH that it's got Throttle 1-4 and RPM 1-4.  What's the diff?

Am0n,
With USB products you have to "wake" them up on the first use alot of times.  I have had mine need to be woke up after 2 hrs of playing before.  AFAIK it is just one of those USB things.

I have a USB Precision Pro (2?) and I have the throttle mapped to the z axis.  Is your throttle mapped to z axis under AH joystick setup?
Just a thought.

Kodak, if it's saying the joystick is not connected, then it won't load the drivers, which is important for the sidewinder series, and even more so for USB.

Check that a)the stick is on ID no.1
b)the sidewinder software is indeed pointing at the precision pro, it defaults to 3D pro, which of course isn't connected....

Yep after I fixed the game port problem it recognized the throttle as the Z axis.

It is at ID 1 and I do have precision pro highlighted in the sidewinder program.  Still says not connected although you can go to the control panel and "bam" there it is right there.  Still have the spike in the throttle control.  Acts like an on and off with the rpm's so I'm either full blast or zero.
