I must say, I fly the 109K4 almost exclusively at the moment and I have have found nothing but great ease in catching and killing P-51Ds.
Perhaps they all over-load themselves like greedy pigs, but I have never had a problem closing to 200yards and tearing their wings off.
At the very most I've had a P-51 maintain an equal distance to me for a few miles while I was RTB ammo. He closed to 2.0k and could get no closer, so I landed my kills without incident.
I find your research to be most interesting though, so thank you for putting in the effort.
