I wish we could have C-47's have two gliders to drag along like they did in WW2.  Someone could then 'join' the pilot and be in the glider, release it, and glide down for skid landing to make a capture.  This would enable die hard C-47 guys to fly higher and avoid getting clobbered at the lower elevations, as happens all the time.

I love it . Lets take an already painfully slow AC and make it a tow gliders.

Nothing like shooting fish in a barrel .

Well, if you give various payload options (in addition to troops and supplies), such as half-tracks, jeeps, and M-8, it could make for some interesting GV assault tactics.  Then the glider guy could land the glider, then hop into the GV he's carrying and go from there.  Just a thought.

Better yet, how about a 109 inside the glider.... That way, he could land, hope out, hop in, and take off in a powered aircraft

Actually, there are a few of us, “Diehard C-47 Pilots”… It is usually the only plane that I fly on squad nights.

The idea of towing 2 of my squadies behind lines in Waco glides so that they can do “Rat Patrol” jeep raids sounds like a real hoot! As far as, “Shooting fish in a barrel”, not everyone feels the need to be in the fastest, most maneuverable plane. I love a challenge!

 Of course if we want to go full bore... How about the Horsa glider with jeeps AND cannons!

Ya i agree, except grasshoppers were the only gliders that could be towed by goons.  And also, only one glider can be towed per c47, if more are added, the gliders would take the c47 down...... then all 20 people die(4 per glider)
This is still a good idea because we could do a scenario of sicily, 1944.(or was it 1943? forgot)

After recieving some cynical and I might add ludicrous replies about gliders, I wanted to clarify how I thought it would work.

The (2)pulled gliders would hold 10 troops each, not a tank and not a 109 disassembled.  When someone 'joined' the goon pilot, they would be routed into the glider.  They would then release, then have to fly it down to the ground.  Glider pilot would have to land on the flat part near the town, then released troops would have to run from the outskirts.  Seems like it would be fun to me.

I think the idea has potential.

Esp if you could load a M3, Jeep, or troops into a glider.

We'd need some new troop types to go with it. Basic Riflemen, MG unit, Morter crews, and possibly light towed artillery.

one part of the idea i really like is the once the goon releases the glider the person who joined gets to fly it

question

did you want it to work like drones in a bomber if you bail you end up in a glider?
or would the glider still be hooked and fall to the ground with the goon

the gliders had a hell of a time with jeeps they fell like bricks once tow line was broken and loadin an m3 thats just ludicrous:rofl
