AH or Windows problem ?
« on: November 24, 2000, 02:44:00 PM »
What does this mean ?
Every time I quit AH and go back to desktop , I get this error message. I can't even restart AH again after this message, I have to reboot before I can connect AH again.

ACESHIGH caused an invalid page fault in
module D3DIM.DLL at 0167:56665e53.

I've made a clean install for AH, no change...
My system :
PII 400, 256 Mb RAM
Win98SE
DirectX 8.0
Asus V-3800 Riva TNT2 with Detonator 6.31 drivers
Sb 128 live value
CH gamecardIII automatic
CH F-16 Fighterstick w/ Pro Throttle / Pro Pedals

Any Ideas ? Clean install again ? Do I have to format my harddisk ? ?

When you said that you made a clean install, do you mean that you had uninstalled ah and then reinstall ah.

When you uninstall ah it still leaves the HTC folder with ah stuff in it.
After uninstalling ah find the htc folder using windows explorer and manual remove it.

Then reinstall the game.

Note: I've had problems before, getting kicked out of the game to my desktop and not being able to get back in.
Next time you get kicked to you desktop, ctrl + alt + del on your desktop and see if aceshigh is running.  End task and then see if you then can get back into the game.

I've done  uninstalling just that way, first by using uninstall program, and then removing ALL files and folders left, but after reinstalling AH  it still does the same, I'm getting the same error message every time I quit AH

I checked out if AH was still running in the back, it was not. It shouldn't do that of course, because I click 'quit' -button before going back to desktop.

Sounds like Winblows to me ?

I notice you have directx 8.0.  Did it happen with directx 7.0a?

I also notice you use the nvidia reference video driver.
Maybe try the original video drivers that came with your card or use the latest driver for your card from your manufacturer instead of the reference driver.

Sounds like the same problem I had with Roger Wilco,<POS software> if so uninstall RW and AH will work.

Gentlemen,

Thx for your quick responses, I really appreciate that

I began thinking of what Bowser brought to light right after my last reply, and I have  already done reinstalling Win98 and DX 7.0a to my machine.

I'm still using Detonator 6.31 drivers, which work great in my system, and it looks like there's no problems this far, even though I'm  using Roger Wilco   I can quit AH and return there whenever I want to, without rebooting my system.

So, it looks like Dx8 doesn't work well enough in my computer. I'll stay with Dx7.0a until I'm sure new Dx's will work for me

The error message is coming from a file that is part of Direct X.  I'll bet the problem is DX8 related.
