Obviously, in addition to switching to hybrid vehicles, we must all become vegetarians. This is the only way to reduce the number of cattle needed... it's okay, your life style will adjust.

Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas, and indeed the cows do fart it.
So suddenly they started farting methane parallell to the industrial revoluton, and on top of that, only the domestic cow of recent time (bos taurus) will do that.

Take the USA. It was covered with ruminants, by the millions. Yes, the buffalos. Okay, kill them all, clear some scrub, and replace with cows as much as possible. Difference?
Go one step further. Cultivate the rich ground as long as the ground yealds some old nutrition into new stuff which becomes starch. (corn, wheat etc).
Use the starch for cheap cattlefeed (very effective feeding), the cattle grow like popcorn, but actually fart a lot worse.
So it boils down to the price of yer burger after all.....yes...cow conspiracy
