109e!!
« on: December 11, 2006, 01:07:30 PM »
As many of you know, I'm flying variants of the 109 exclusively this month when in attack mode. If you look at my expanded stats, I'm really having a hard time in some of the models. I do manage some kills, but I mostly get assists. However, I found my new cartoon love, the 109E. I have been having a blast in this thing for about 3 days now. I never see anyone else flying it though. I've managed 20 kills to 6 deaths in one so far. I know that isn't great, but it isn't bad. Some things I've noticed so far...

1. Yes it's slow. But not horribly slow.

2. You get up in the 300+ IAS area and it has a real hard time turning. I've augered/almost augered a few times now in it when in a steep dive. You can dump E in it fairly quick it seems though.

3. It climbs like a champ!

4. It's a stall fitrs dream.  I've had some great turn/stall fights in it.

5. Even though it only carries 120 cannon rounds, I'm having better luck with the 2 gun setup. It also carries a ridiculous amount of mg. I set my cannon convergence to 175 and my mgs to 225.

6. It has fuel for days.

All in all it's like a Zero to me, except it's a better gun platform, and takes more damage. Then again I'm a complete dwoob so what do I know.

Does anyone have some real info on this model? When it came out, how long it was in service for? Stuff like that. I'd really like to learn as much as I can about this aircraft.

here's a cool skin i just came across

Yep, first day the spits were redone I took a 109E up and killed 2 spit16s and a spit8 in a span of 2 minutes in a big furball. But then that doesn't mean I was very good because I had a dozen friendlies nearby to distract the enemy or cover my arse.

You'll find that in 1 v 1 it has its limits. It's a nice plane, and I do enjoy it now and then, but the engine is underpowered to compete with half of the planeset.

P.S. the paint scheme you linked was used on E-1s, early on. It was an experimental camo used by the Pik-As (JG53, I think) and it did see combat. However I've never got word if we could do E-1 skins on the E-4, so I never bothered to skin it (but I wanted to).

E is a very capable aircraft. More than a match in a dogfight with most rides. I'd put it's best fights against the likes of the KI84, spit16 and the P38. The zero on equal terms should be an easy fight for you. Just use your superior climb ability to control the fight. Glad you found a 109 that you're enjoying.

I might have to disagree with ya there, Dud.

In equal pilots even a SpitV outclasses the 109E, let alone a 9, let alone an 8, let alone a spit16. Just slow things down then go nose high and the 109E can't stay with you at all. Same with the Ki. It's far more capable of the slow fight with its butterfly flaps, and can pull vertical like nobody's bidnezz. 38G is an interesting thought, though. I've not had a 109E fights vs a 38 in a long, long time. I'm sure the 38 would win unless it got into a protracted slow turnfight. That would be kinda cool, actually.

I guess we'll just agree to disagree then.

Krusty,

Yeah, that skin is pretty bad arnold! Wish we could have that.

I've had a couple really awesome 1 vs 1 in the E so far. One fight I got pounced by an LA7 when all I had left were the 2 mgs. Somehow I managed to win that fight. REALLY WISH I HAD BEEN FILMING! I also got a Spixteen in a 1 v 1. I did have an awesome fight last night vs. LTARhntr when he was in a Spixteen. I again was down to only mgs. I managed to force 2 overshoots and get some good snapshots but with only the 2mgs I couldn't pull it off. Hntr dropped into a great low YOYO during our fight and instead of doing the same, I tried to flap climb and hope he wouldn't have enough E to come all the way back up. He did and I died. It was prolly the most fun and challenging 1 v 1 yet, though I really did enjoy shooting down the LA7.

So, does anyone have any data or stats on the 109E4? What's the "E" stand for anyway. i know in the "G" it's Gustav.

The E is just a letter, comes after D and before F. Folks have given it the name "Emil" from the German phonetic alphabet, but whether pilots actually called it that or not is up for debate.

I took the E up for a few spins tonight and it is the king of assists. I got one kill, about 10 assists and got waxed twice in it. I had forgotten how much fun that old bird can be if you dont mind the assists. :)

At one point i survived about 5 or 6 spits and a tiffie all by myself for what felt like five minutes and im using the mouse! finally some hisps tore me a new one but damn it was fun.

I had a great fight last night in my 1-hog against two 109E's, much fun I tell you!  Afterwards, I looked up to see I had taken a screenshot instead of hitting record. :(
