Capture Recognition

Part of the fun in AH his when your name is read for the number of kills you land.  I think it would be great if players who perform the actual base capture were recognised as well.

The guy who drives the M3, goon or LVT effectively sacrifices their time for the good of the team.  They are almost defenseless and move at just about the slowest speed.

My idea is when a capture is read, for example it reads

"Field 63 has been captured by the bishops"

It could say

"Field 63 has been captured by (players name) of the bishops"

Maybe a silly request, but I think it would be cool to give the guy who spent the last 30 minutes in the goon, M3 or LVT some accolades from fellow players.

Yeah, but what about when there's 5 guys that dedicated their time and effort to get to that town, all in goons or M3s, and only the first guy gets the credit? Talk about a kick in the teeth!

I think that would decrease peoples' willingness to run goons for you, if they don't "get their name in lights" because somebody "stole" their capture. It opens up a whole new avenue for whining.

What Krusty says above is probably true about the whining, as it is ubiquitous in AH for anything and everything.

I don't agree that it would reduce peoples willingness to take troops for a capture, as it is done now anyway.  If anything it would increase people's willingness to do it.  (it is cool getting the wtg from fellow teamates)

As far as 'stealing' someones capture, that happens too.  I've been to a maproom first and let troops go, then someone following releases and gets the 10th troop in before mine, getting the capture and the 'maproom destroyed' message.  Sucks but thats how it goes, like kill stealing by shooting at a mortally wounded opponent.

Vast majority of the time though, the base capture is done by that one guy over and over who gets no credit or public recognition.  I don't think it's a big deal, and would take AH two seconds of code writing to make the change.

Speaking of AH, I wonder if they actually read and effectuate any of these suggestions, or are we just wasting our time even putting forth ideas here
:(

What about the goon pilot that spent the last 45 minutes making slow turns at tree-top level with the stall horn blowing and Typhys circling above that haven't killed him yet only because they have cap video cards haven't seen the goon yet... god forbid your kid needs you, or your wife wants your attention or you have to throw a hose... cause if you do you're taking a dirt nap and you suddenly have 7 countrymen thinking your some kind of loser-newb because you can't fly a "simple" goon run.

Its not always some schmuck stealing a capture... some people earn it... and its worth getting your name in lights every once in a while

Here's to all the bus drivers out there :aok  you're the unsung heroes of AH! :aok

Oh I hear ya there. I've been the schmuck in a C47 more often than not (and been left alone when the shoe drops, it's amazing how you can have 20 teammates clearing a field, EXCEPT the ack, then when I get there in a C47 they ALL disappear for 20 minutes, by which time 5 enemy planes bounce me -- has happened a dozen times to me, so I rarely drive goons anymore).

Wow.  I agree with Krusty!

While we all enjoy a pat on the back, taking a base is usually a team effort. The one who drops the troops (either in an M3, LVT or C-47) gets the perk points.  I'm thinking under the circumstances that is reward enough.
Always try and be the person your dog thinks you are.
