Still having some graphics glitches with a radeon 9800.

running omega drivers 412 97a

It looks like tire tracks all over the ground, all the time.

any thoughts?

Has to be a group of Amish cutting through to get to a meeting on time. Once we get the Seabees working on patching then that should go away.

When things like that show up, it is normally caused by either heat or power. Those are your basic video memory glitches.

Ahha.

Thanks Skuzzy..this computer has a fan that sounds like its on its way out. I'll have a look.

Okay, there are two fans in the case, both seem to be running, although one sounds like the bearing is rough for the first few minutes after start-up.

I noticed that the video card does not have it's own fan. (ie: no fan on the card itself)

this pooter is 2 years old. It's a Dell XPS with a radeon 9800 card.

Skuzzy do you mean a power problem with the card or the computer power supply?

I'm kinda leaning towards insufficient cooling on the card, but am wondering about the power comment as well.

Wait a minute. A 9800 without a fan? You sure it is a 9800? 9800's all had fans. Without a fan, the 9800 would melt in minutes, unless it has some elaborate heat pipe cooler. The heat sink would be huge though.

Is there a separate power plug going to the video card? If not, then it I do not think you have a 9800. 9600, maybe? Even the 9600XT had a fan.

Easy way to check for heat problems. Pull the side panel off the case and point a desk fan at the video card.
