Computer froze with last v.1.05 patch6
« on: February 28, 2001, 04:13:00 PM »
Never had this problem before, but since I installed the last 6 my computer froze any time I hit the online button.

The system:
PIII 700 (100mhz)
Viper 550
DirectX 8
Cable Modem 256kb

Thanks for any advice

Have you traced your connection? (trace alt.hitechcreations.com and beta.hitechcreations.com with www.pingplotter.com)

Does the game work fine if you press the "offline" button?

I got 202 ms for beta.hitechcreations.com and 372ms for alt.hitechcreations.com and yes, everything works fine offline and use to work fine online until the last update.

I got the full download too but still have the same problem. The screen freeze completely when I click the online button and nothing more works, even the ctrl+alt+del.

Ok...this may be a little off-topic, but I just gotta ask Lephturn a quick question.

Leph....I downloaded Pingplotter the other night to trace my connect.  It worked great.  The other night I was having really big lag and delay and spike problems so I tried to run a trace.  Pingplotter kept giving me an error...destination address unreachable....I think it said.  I finally figured out that it was RW that was causing my problems so I turned it off.  Since that day, I still am unable to run a trace to HTC, but I can log into the MA and play just fine.  Seems weird to me.  I havent made any changes to my system during this time either.  What do you think?

That is just wacky.

Maybe HTC dropped the "beta" name from the DNS database.  Crap, I'll have to figure out the IP addresses themselves and you can try to trace those.  If you can't trace those, I don't know how you can log in at all.

The first thing you guys should do is scan your systems for viruses though.  I know there are a few out there that infect winsock32 and will cause networking problems.  Start there.  If that comes up clean, remove Roger Wilco.  Next get the latest sound card drivers.  Then re-install Direct X 8.0a.  Then re-install AH.  If that all works, you can grab the latest version of RW and be sure to turn it to Wav recording and all should work.

DNS entries are still the same ("alt" and "beta").  I noted someone was using the old address (somewhere in this BB).

You can depend on the actual name to stay, but you cannot depend on the IP address staying the same.

I have no problems logging in at all.  I just cant run a trace to HTC.  The first thing I did the other night when this started happening other than re-logging was to run a virus scan and everything came up clean.  I will try to turn on RW tonight and see if the same problem shows up again.

I just dont understand how I can still access the internet and log onto the MA if I cant trace the connect to HTC.

Maybe your ISP has ICMP messages blocked.  Some do this for the ECHO packet to stop ping floods from causing network congestion.

Just a thought.

As long as I can still connect to the MA then I am not going to worry about it.  On a side note, I turned RW back on last night and everything looked ok.  Guess it was just a temporary thing.
