I've found Top Gear to be extremely objective and not preferential to British Engineering whatsoever. Their unmitigated journalistic credability was typified when they decided pick the most functionally and aesthetically perfect creation in mechanical history. If memory serves, the two finalists were the Aston Martin DB7 and the Spitfire. It would have been sacriligious to have picked either one over the other, so they called it a day with a draw.

No no no...

they like Ferrari's too :)

British things and Ferrari's.

(in actual fact JC, is a big Ford GT40 fan and owns one).

It was probably a DB9, and can you really blame them?

Well, for their aesthetic qualities, I never liked any high-end british cars. Ever(with the sole exception of the 60s era Jaguar Coupe). They have 3 or 4 basic shapes from which they rarely deviate--shapes that I never found interesting to begin with. (As a side not to that, I was once watching their cable show, and the host asked a car designer to quickly sketch out a new design for a Sports Coupe. The designer drew what looked like another 2 door jag/Aston clone, same shape, same proportions, at which point the host proclaimed it a snapshot of the future, or some such nonesense).

Technically speaking, I don't know if the brits are better or worse than the Germans, or, for that matter, the Americans, so can't comment. The Spitfire, while attractive, is not a clear winner in any category... The fact that they immediately narrowed the field to the Spitfire and the Aston was a bit laughable, though, as they disqualified every German and Italian car, as well as any offering by any other nation, without so much as a fart of a mention.

I'd like them to Race a Saleen S7tt against the Mclaren. Perhaps that would give them a bit of humility. But why bother?

I think the fastest car round the circuit was a Ferrari Enzo, Ariel Atom pushed it close mind you.

Most of the fastest cars were from mainland Europe.

I've never seen a race of superexotics that included the Saleen TT. If you have a link to a summary of such a contest, I'd certainly check it out.

I wondered what he would do with a real American car and he didn't disappoint.  Even when faced with perfection he still has to trash talk American rolling iron.

This is a really good video.  It should make every American proud.

Ugh. Boy Bands. That from guy whose country invented them. The whole 'if it's not British, it's crap!' philosophy reeks of a tired SNL skit, while the host's general demeanor and endless string of witless wit just reeks.

Never seen them test the Saleen. I've seen Car and Driver and Road and Track take a spin in it, but never Top Gear.
