Speed

I just started today and I'm having a little trouble.  All I can get up to on speed is around 200.  I assume you should be able to go faster.  I tried the scaling and stuff but I don't really know what I'm doing.   Can someone help me out please?

If you only get up to 200 mph in level flight, youre not full throttle.

Theres one easy way to check if you are going full boost: Up a plane that has WEP (war emergency power), for example the P51. Go to full throttle and the hit the P key.... if that doesnt give you some extra power, youre not full throttle. Reasons for that can vary.

First you have to make sure you mapped your Joystick (or mouse) correctly - especially the throttle control. Detailed instructions for both can be found on the Trainer Corps Homepage http://trainers.hitechcreations.com

After setting everything up, make sure you recalibrate (including any rudder, throttle and rotaries on your stick!). Also make sure that your stick is calibrated well in Windows.

How fast you should be able to go very much depends on plane and altitude and your planes external loadout (bomb, rockets, external fuel). You can get simple speed and climb charts in game, by right clicking the plane in the HANGAR list. For more detailed performance data, check out Sodas Aircraft page and Dok Gonzos Charts - both are linked on the Trainer Corps Homepage.

The reason why i stressed the "level flight" earlier is: were talking WW2 prop planes here, not modern jets. As soon as you get your nose high, you will loose a lot of speed. If you want to climb, its best to use the autospeed (autoclimb) pilot - ALT_X. It will keep your plane on the same heading, at a preset speed (usually between 140 and 160 mph), at full throttle that means your plane climbs.

I hope this helps you.

Schatzi probably hit the nail on the head but you might want to first check that your gear is up.  Trust me as someone who's done this more than once.  Those big main mounts hanging out in the wind make for a slow plane...not that I'd notice that much since I fly the Hurri a lot.   ;)  Also, with auto takeoff the system will automatically raise your gear as long as you don't move your controls.

Check flaps

Make sure your flaps are up.

With flaps down your drag is increased, thus slowing you down.

Good Luck

Alright I calibrated my joystick in windows, I did it in the game, made sure the gear was up, flaps all that.  I fidled around with the scaling and I'm still stuck at about 250.  I can hit 300 and a little  over in a nose dive but thats about it.  I need a step by step walk through of how I should be setting this stuff up because I'm not doing something right.

Man, I have no clue.  You must be flying a hurricane, those speeds sound about right.:rofl

If those speeds sound right then thats good.  I was thinking I was going way slower than I should be.  First time I've played this type of game.

What plane are you flying? (Ordenance/external fuel?)

I will be in the Training Arena tonight after around 7pm GMT we could see if we can get you going a little faster. What is your ingame name?

PS: The *scaling* has nothing to do with this... all it does is scale your raw Joystick input on the function in game - simply pu, it adds a time delay to smoothen out the input from the Joystick. This does in no way effect the maximum input settings.

Watch both needles.  The white one is indicated air speed while the red one is true gound speed.  Still, IAS probably should be higher.  What are you flying?

Checklist:

Make sure throttle is properly mapped and calibrated.
Make sure throttle is set to full
Make sure all engines are running (in multi-engine aircraft)
Make sure gear is up
Make sure flaps are up
Set auto pilot at level flight (x), turn on WEP (p).  Does it work (engine speeds up)?

If you've done all these things you should be OK.  Some planes (bombers and JU-87 for instance) aren't much faster than what you describe.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.
