Vox Etiquette for the teenage NOOB
« on: December 23, 2006, 12:52:28 PM »
As of late I have taken on a personal crusade to bring a little fun and frivolity back to the boards with my lighthearted after action reports. I am going to stray from this a bit and change the tone of my posts just this one time.

You see I am one of those rather helpful chaps that from time to time enjoys imparting knowledge of the game on the new players. Why just this morning I endeavored to help a young lad to get his VOX working.

It started in the text buffer and slowly, but surely I got him to tune his radio, push the right key and talk to me. I even helped him to set his mic level correctly so that he could be understood over the radio. What a helpful ambassador of the AH community I was!!

My chest swelled with pride for about 5 minute until suddenly I realized this little cretin would not STFU!!!!

So please young warriors, if someone helps you get your VOX up and running a simple thank you is sufficient. If you have another question or two regarding the game, that can be addressed assuming the helper has the time. But under no circumstances does this helpful soul need to hear your life story!! He or she does not care about you WOW wizard or paladin or whatever it is you play in other games.

If at all confused as to whether or not your continued blabbering is inappropriate look for the following signal....

If you depress the VOX key numerous times asking "Are still there?"...."are you there?"...."Where did you go?"....."I'll be right back" take the following silence as politely spoken STFU!!!!!!

My apologies to the 56th for for being a helpful lil Christmas elf on squad channel. I fully assume that I shall be waxing planes for the remainder of the holidays, or until the above mentioned cretin goes back to playing Warcraft.

Your Minister of Fun,

Big Mickey

you better be careful... with a name like 'Big Mickey' you are likely to get the attention of Hub and have him hitting on you over vox.

Dear Big Mickey,

There's this girl in my class which I like. She doesn't notice me because of my acne and and my number 14 glasses. I'm trying to level a paladin to 60 in WOW and impress her with the epic loot, but it's not working. She's also not impressed with my ability to speak fluent klingon. I really want to ask her out to stars wars 3 - revenge of the Sith. How do I get her to agree without drugging her?

Thank you

Bozon,

Your in luck!!! I think I have just the gal for you. Her name is Amanda and she is a Leo....GRRRRRRRRROWL!!

She currently working on a level 46 Druid in WOW and says she could use a Wand of "Making" wink wink nudge nudge!!

She is a "HUGE FAN" of StarWars and thinks "That guy that played Anakin is SOOOOOO hot!!"

Oh she also shares your love for Klingon culture and say to tell you "qoSraj botIvjaj" just in case.

Lastly she is also a fan of Star Trek and has been wanting to meet someone younger ever since the Fox network introduced her to the swarthy character known as Westley on the "Next Generation" series. Because of this she would like to arrange a date with you at Quarks Bar located on the casino level of the Hilton hotel in Las Vegas Nevada.

Oh and I almost forgot, her hobbies include hand crafting her own chain mail lingerie.....you lucky dog you.

Picture included....see bellow

"There's this girl in my class which I like. How do I (win her heart)?"

I have had a fair amount of success in this field. Whenever I see a girl my heart leaps because I know I have at least one kill waiting for me. The kill hangs from the branch, and there is a knack to plucking it. If you follow my advice you will be an effective plucker.

The important thing is to have an energy advantage, but not so much that it wipes out your ability to manoeuvre. Approach to a distance of about 1.5k, and make sure she is beneath you and off to the side. When you get level with her, go into a gentle, looping dive, timed so that you flash past at maximum speed. You might lose sight of her during the dive, depending on your aircraft. Then corkscrew back up into her. It she catches fire, that is excellent; back off and get into position, and periodically check for incoming escorts.

Bear in mind that a lot of the advice you get on this board is akin to the "post-creative rationalisation" that goes on in the art world, by which I mean that people generate their rationale after the outcome of their attack, fitting the rationale to that outcome. Remember also that the lady might be a complete novice, and that the hits she lands on you could be just lucky.

Also, do not dogfight her; the odds are that she has been playing this game, and its predecessors, for almost a decade. No matter how skilled you are at the art of love, the majority of her suitors will be more skilled than you. Therefore, compensate for this with superior tactics, patience, guile, and superior technology. I too am lax in the physique department, but ladies fall for me because I follow the example of those monkeys that infiltrate the lion's den and make off with freshly-killed caribou; you can't fight the lion, but you *can* outsmart the lion.

I want you to outsmart the lion, Mr Bozon. Once you have mastered that, all girls are yours.

Remember- "Big Mickey" is not a good ID for preteen chat rooms. My daughter's federal agency may take an interest in your "advice". So if you're invited to"visit" the kid you are "helping" it may be a sting. Just a little advice for you.
