Toy and other packaging
« on: December 25, 2006, 12:12:42 AM »
Who is the flipping sadist that designs the packaging for these things??

They come out with products. Usually fresh out for Christmas
And they put then in packages that are next to impossible to wrap!!

Right now I have these damn "Bratz Kidz" Dolls Im wrapping for my daughter.
Not only isnt there a square corner on any portion of the package.
The sides are made up of convex curves.
Im almost half tempted to just wrap Duct tape around the entire things.

Anyne want to make a million?
Invent Wrapping paper that stretches
Death is no easy answer
For those who wish to know
Ask those who have been before you
What fate the future holds
It ain't pretty

No kidding.  I had to use a screwdriver to unwrap some of the toys for my kids this evening.  BTW, not as a prybar or a cutter, but because some of the toys were _actually screwed into the box_ with crosspoint screws.

Yup...same thing here...8 year old daughter means a lot of 3 foot twist ties, screws, and that damnable molded plastic.

Reason? All that crap is made in china, and has to be packaged, boxed, crated, shipped 6000 miles, uncrated, unboxed, and placed on the shelves in "display" condition, so that NOTHING moves during shipment.

Hell, jsut shove it in a box and paste a picture on the front!

the ones i hate
arent the ones that you need a magician to wrap

the ones i hate are the containers they put pocket knife in
and scissors
the thing that they put them in you need a pair of scissors or a knife to open

god i want to throw those at someone when i realize the thing i need is in one of those containers
Since tour 75

my son is a mechanic and I have some ability in that regard...  We were helping my grand daughter after she unwrapped some dolls and things..

My trusty ckrt assisted opening knife worked great on the bubble wrap crap but then we got to all the various twisty ties and such...  My grand daughter said..  "I can do it now" and took the card with all those little pieces wire tied to it and got em all off..

They go to like 30 birthday parties a year so they get real good at unwrapping stuff.

NO kidding on the Bratz pkgs!  How about the one that was packaged in the heart shaped box?  Had the one with the convex curves!

Agree the twist ties are killer - and whoever does them doesn't twist them right!  Each one is twisted in some different method.  And the tape is double sided or it is really sticky or both!  I have opened 6 of these boxes for far and have one broken nail, a few plastic cuts, and tape residue on me - and have have more to go!

My son was easy this year - legos - nice squared boxes and just rip it open and the brick are in plastic bags - easy!  Legos needs to expand on their line for girls!

Good luck to all of you in your Christmas construction sessions!

I had to use scissors to open up my utility knife that I got..

Can you belive that?

The easiest thing I got to open?

The Dremmel Stylus...

WTG Dremmel, easily removed packaging, and it was ready to go after 2 hours charging! (Actually had a charge in it when removed from packaging)

The formed-over plastic stuff is nearly impossible to get into.  I think its some sadistic way for the folks at BestBuy to never have to take back a USB cable or accessory, as you KNOW they'll insist on the original packaging.  :)

LOL in fielf of packaging...... the packaging Engineer isnt the one making the package this impossible to get into!  They are directed by the Markeing department who inturn tells them how they want the pack to be on the shelf so it is the most eye catching to sell the product.

At that point the packaging Eng.  has to make it work.

So when you all are fighting these things to get them open.........Think them Damn marketing people!!!!!!!
