All,
Would someone please just let me know if there is another game that is as cool as AH but where maybe everyone hasn't played for 10 years + ??? Fun flying but what is fun about getting shot down whenever you up?  Yeah I know all the vets are clutchin' their junk and sayin'-noob.  But think about when you first played?  When u last got... a kill.   Someone up to train me or am I hopeless?

All the people flying AH were newbs at some point & had to suffer many shoot downs before they began to learn & start landing kills.

Schedule some lessons with a trainer  http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/
Lets keep the stupid to a minimum.

Endo it's quite normal to spend a few weeks, if not months being a bulleye.
As suggested, get with a trainer. They will help you configure your joystick, views, and run you through some basic manuevers.

You can find a lot of usefull info at http://www.netaces.org

Good luck and welcome to AH.

hello from Pigs On The Wing! listen, don't get frustrated. i have been playing for almost a year now and i'm just now starting to feel comfortable. I STILL GOT SHOT DOWN ALL THE TIME. it took me a couple months just to land a few kills. this game is the best game out as far as flight model realism is concerned. be patient, and when it all starts to click, it really feels good.

i too would be willing to spend some time in the TA with you if you like.

Study your map to pick fields that have a numbers advantage in your favor, ie., a big green bar, and a little red bar. You can study the map while you are in flight. This will keep some of the heat off of you to stay alive long enough to learn.

I'm one of those 10+ year vets.  I'm still learning (or sometimes re-learning what I somehow forgot).  Just stick with it.  It will come.

BTW, my name is the same in game as on the BBS.  I'd be glad to go to the dueling arena with you just to chase each other around for a while and give you whatever tips I can.

BTW, BTW, I've never seen it posted here but there is a great book by Robert Shaw called Fighter Combat, Tactics and Manouvering if you're serious about this.  I'll warn you though, it's not an easy read and most of it will go over your head until you've run into the lessons in the arenas.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Bro,

be patient.  This game is very complex and even people who have been here for months / years get smoked all of the time.  It's frustrating, VERY frustrating, but anything worth getting good at is hard.  Ignore all of the people who talk smack on 200, and get with a trainer as soon as you can.

If you see me in the TA I'll fly with you.  I suck but I'm a great target drone.

ISBN 0-87021-059-9 Published by  Naval Institute Press.

It is a big book in every respect. Used by real fighter pilots because it is that good! Don't let the jet fighter cover picture  put you off, this book covers guns solutions and so many different situations that you would not believe anyone would have been so thorough. one against two, fast against slow, energy type against turners, visa versa! - I have only just re-opended my copy to remind me of all I have forgotten!

Lots of quotes and short tales from old aces. I suspect that every member of the "56th Firebirds" squad had a copy!

Edit after skychimps post.
I agree this will not stop you getting shot down or even help you learn. But to anyone interested in ACM it is a heck of a good reference to have.

Well i wouldn't say go buy and read a book best bet is going into DA only way to  really learn is learn from your mistakes. Sure you'll get shot down many of times before you notice a diffrence but after a month or so you'll be much better. Ask for airvent (he wont be that name but just ask for him)

You may never be as good as those 10 year vets but you can come pretty close with time and effort.
And besides.... that time and effort will make you better than the nOObs that join tomorrow.
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

That's an important thing to remember. You're only a noob until the next guy comes in. For now stay out of the main arena's. Just fly in the training room and join the folks in the training room when they go to the dueling arena.

Get all the basics out of the way in a less frustrating environment. Most are not going to learn anything in the mian arenas.

It is all about the effort you put into it.  There are a few 1-2 year players around here that could hold their own with the best vets.  There are also many 5+ year vets that are hard pressed to rise to above average skill levels.

While there are a lot of us that started out in the first generation of online WWII flight siming (Air Warrior), I think we are a small segment of the AH community.  We just happen to often be the most vocal, and the most noticed :)

A few of the people that replied only started within the last year.  Im sure they could tell you that once you understand the basics of air combat, it becomes much more enjoyable.

Oh, and what is your gameID?
