TNT2 Frame Rate
« on: March 15, 2001, 03:59:00 PM »
I have a feeling, based on other posts, that I should be getting a lot better graphics than I am. Only 1024x768, 16 bit is really useable at ~30-40 fps, <20 in smoke. Here's my system:

Fujitsu-Siemens AMD 1GHz
256 M RAM
Normal IDE
Realtek 8029 network card
Hauppauge TV/radio card
Nvidia TNT2 32MB

I managed to get the network card and the display card on different IRQs by moving the network card around, and the TV card is on a different interrupt.

There is no difference between online and offline performance.

I would be really grateful if someone could offer advice, hints, tweaks, condolences, money, etc.

Thanks in Advance,
aka SnoGoose

What driver are you using for the TNT2?
I got my best frame rate from the Det v2.08 drivers...give 'em a try!

To accurately compare systems you have to benchmark them.  Go to Fradims AH benchmark page (not his WB page).
 http://www.grandeavenida.com/fps/index.cfm?Game=2

I get about 15-20 fps in the smoke also.  My system is similiar to yours with a TNT2 Ultra card.  With systems like ours, we probably should go with a GEForce 2 card.

Maybe some GEForce 2 users can post their fps while in the smoke (along with their system specs.)

Hey MrLars,

Where can I find those Det v2.08 drivers?  I can't seem to dig them up.  I'm running Win2k here at work, do you know if those Det v2.08's are best in Win2k, or just 98?

Thanks for the hints. I had already installed the "latest" detonator drivers from nvidia's site, but I can't figure out what version they are. None of the dialog boxes in display props, etc. seems to tell you that.

BTW, this box came with Windows ME. Do you get better performance with '98?

Also, I did manage to get satisfactory (almost as good as before) fps at 1024x32 by using rivatuner, version 2 and overclocking.

I still think I should be getting better results, though.

Will try the benchmark stuff this weekend.
