Weird laptop event
« on: December 29, 2006, 06:37:33 PM »
Sons home from college. as is his laptop

Laptop sitting there and suddenly emits a long un-ending beep and the computer is locked up. no mouse responce from either the mouse or the touchpad. Pressing reset does  nothing. pressing and holding the power button does nothing.

It just sits there loudly going
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EP

So I unplug it. forgetting it has a battery so this obviously does nothing.

Eventually I figure out how to remove the battery and that shuts it off.

Place battery back in. Reboot the laptop and it boots normally and so far after an hour runs fine and it hasnt repeated.

Any Ideas?

Laptop is a HP Pavillion Media Center DV8225 NR

Any idea how long it was on before it started to beep? Something could of gotten too hot or maybe battery was low? Never had a laptop <-wouldn't know thats just my 2cents. Sounds like it just locked up or overheated..

Had this happen on my work laptop, about 3 times, (an HP).  Sent the unit to HP, and it turned out that the stupid thing had a dead cell in the battery, so once the battery was replaced, problem solved.

Thanks.

Been running nonstop now since the event was first posted.
Still no problems.

Im thinking maybe it was just some sort of weird glitch or hangup.

Dunno. maybe two people logged on at the same time in his AIM software and the computer got confused as to which buddy sound to play or something.

::shrug::
