The strangest thing that's ever happened to you
« on: December 30, 2006, 10:54:41 AM »
We've done your dweebiest moment and your favorite kill.  I thought maybe we could do a what's the strangest thing that's ever happened to you in the game thread.

This can include anything from game glitches to unusual circumstances that will likely never repeat.

Here's mine.

I was up one night and eny was in effect.  I was jumping back and forth between a Seafire, Spit V and FM2 depending on where eny was at the time.

I had just been up flying over a Rook base in an FM2 and had been having some luck there so I decided to give it another go, this time in a Spit V.  I flew out and promtly got my a** handed to me by Axer.

OK, I thought, that was a fluke.  I'm taking a Seafire back.  I'll show him!

I fly out and there's a mountain range between our bases.  As I approach I spot a NIK at about 7K.  OK, I'll go get the NIK first then I'll go get Axer.  This is going to be great!  I'm chasing the NIK around the mountains, close enough to get a few pings on him but never close enough to bring him down.  Suddeny: Ping Ping Ping and my left wing is gone.

My plane rolls over inverted and I know it's going to go down fast.  I want every opportunity for the pings I landed on the NIK to become a kill for me and I can see friendly dots approaching so I shut off the engine.

Here's the strange part:

My plane floats gently toward the ground inverted at about the same speed as a chute.  As I float there I watch the friendlies come in, engage the enemys, planes are flying all around me until the battle ends and everyone flys off and I'm just floating there upside down taking it all in.

Finally as the ground got close I bailed.  Who gets the kill?  Axer!  Not sure if he was the one who poped my wing or if it was a proxie after the fact but I went and flew somewhere else after that.

Other than attempting to catch cons that turn out to be dust on the monitor, the other night I thought I saw a GV heading inot one of our bases, dove down, trying to catch it, then thinking maybe good 'cause it was going pretty quick, getting closer and not seeing a con, then I got close enough to realize it was a rouge truck from the convoy, going it a straight line while all the rest of the convoy followed the road. It then merged with the convoy again, and I left, laughing quite a bit.
Then there's the convoys that fly about 20' off the ground, but I think most have seen those by now. I hope.....

i once had my tail shot off in an FM2, and much like you describe, floated down from about 2000 ft above the water.  Still had ailerons, flaps and motor working and at about 50ft above the water i gunned the engine with wep and tried to do something with ailerons and flaps, the result being nothing more than an increased or decreased gyration on the inetable plumbet to death.  at about 10ft off the ground i shut the engine off, dropped the flaps, and expected to go splat.....but....as i switched the engine off the plane went into a very shallow nose dive and then smoothly flared up, skimming the waves, finally coming to rest gently on the surface with no more damaged taken.

i ditched it.  fell 2000ft and survived with only half a plane. lol.
400 yrds on my tail, right where i want you... [/size]

Was driving in a panzer, and suddenly stopped moving forward. The tank tilted like it does with a track out. The engine sound picked up, faster and faster, until it hit "Alvin and the Chipmunks" pitch...but it kept going higher, into the "my dog is whining and covering his ears" zone. The darn thing wouldnt respond to any controls, so I started a film to send about the strange new bug I'd encountered.

When I viewed the film, I found the reason for the strangeness...my tank's altitude was zipping downward, and its speed was registered at almost 600 mph.

I think I hit a seam in the terrain tiles, and slipped through!

Any time I get a kill.

Any time someone actually performs a different sort of attack than B&Z.

Mine was invisable plane of death in a bomber formation just killed guy. I see no dar bar or cons. As i'm reaching my base i hear pings. I looked out couldn't see anyone (had film on)  i lost all 3 bombers to pilot that didn't ebven show up on the film. I told him in private wrong person to use that on i film every sortie. He just smiled, to my surprise from Skuzzy it was a bug that no one knew of. and they fix it. Needless to say i had to go apologize to pilot for think he was using some kind of code. ( PS CLOAK  came into ah1 and could cloak his gv on demand) took skuzzy 1 minute to remove him from game)

alot think someone is cheat when in fact 99.9% its FE's or server farts. I learned hard way was sure i caught my 2nd cheater. Made myself look bad not the invisable pilot.

I had that during Battle of Britain 2006. Flying on a sortie with 266 squadron, at 23k I spotted about 10 cons 11.00 high. I called them out. They approached but out of Icon range, no one else could see them! I was called drunk and hallucinajenic, but their there on my film of it as well. However as soon as I looked away and looked back, gone! Never did find out what they were! Not dust, and I hadnt sneezed!

Another one that is worth a laugh simply due to the clipboard. Observe :

I'd have a better chance in running into a Dodo Bird in the middle of rush hour, walking down the I-5 with two hookers in tow before I see a useful post from glock89- Ack-Ack

And this comes from a guy who flys*:

Plane   Kills   Deaths   K/D
Bf 109F-4   3051   2712   1.1246
Bf 109G-2   2036   1853   1.0982
Bf 109K-4   8586   6050   1.4189
Bf 110G-2   11901   14734   0.8077
C.202   718   1057   0.6786
F4U-1C   9220   3226   2.8571
Fw 190D-9 12760   8324   1.5327
Average k/d      1.3597

To one who flys*:

Plane   Kills   Deaths   K/D
F6F-5   13554   15501   0.8743
Spitfire Mk XVI 30371 27954   1.0864
Average k/d      0.9804

And was trying out:

Plane   Kills   Deaths   K/D
FM2   3090   2771   1.1147
SeaFire   12854   14837   0.8663

Probably what most are not expecting but...........

Over the last decade plus ... meeting a lot of great folks who share the passion of WWII planes.  This 'silly' game has enabled me to make friendships to last a lifetime.  Yes, great furballs....great one on one dogfights......well executed missions are an absolute blast, but.... having a beer with great friends I've made such as Max, NB, SB, HT, Skuzz, Pyro, Sudz, Natedog, Rex, Waffle, Edbert, Slapshot and too many more to mention is not only strange to how it all came about, but I believe what matters most.  Not to mention friendships made online but never personally met.

Thanks again to all who have made a 'silly' game most enjoyable

and Happy New Year!

I was in H2H and my P38 started going warp speed, while everyone else was still going game speed, wierdest thing ever. I hear some other people expirienced the same thing in some H2H maps. The machine gun bullets even fired like lazers! No kidding!

Is it quite common to see silent, phantom bombers flickering in mid-air? Sometimes, especially when I am flying low, I catch a glimpse of silent, phantom bombers flashing past the front of my aircraft. They are translucent and ephemeral, and they vanish almost as quickly as they appear. They look distorted, as if I am seeing them in a fairground mirror. They haunt me. I assume they're a graphic bug or a property of the network - Aces High isn't complicated enough to have ghosts in it, surely?
