Meatwad's experience at Best Buy
« on: December 31, 2006, 03:15:56 PM »
This morning I decided to go over to Best Buy to get me a Saitek X52 stick.  After finally finding out where they hid these things, they are all out. All thats left is the display which they wont sell. Right under this display it says its on sale for $89.99. "That figures" I said to myself as they seem to be out.

A few minutes pass and some gooney kid in a blue shirt comes up and asks me if I need any help. I tell him that I want this stick, do you have any more. He checks his overstock area didnt see any. I ask him can I just buy the display. "We cant sell the display when its on sale" he says.  He then goes to his computer and punches the number up to see if they have any on hand. Apparently they have two in stock and tells me he will go to the warehouse and look for them.

So here I am waiting and waiting for about 15 minutes, no kid comes back. A different kid comes up and asks me if I need any help. I tell him the same thing I told the first person, with the addition that some kid was looking for it in the warehouse but I think he got lost somewhere. He tells me he will go look for him. He dissapears too and is never seen again.

Now I am starting to get aggrivated. A third person comes up (this time in a grey shirt, must be a little more important.) I tell him the EXACT same thing I told the other two boys. He then checks the computer and even says there are two on hand and tells me he will go look into their warehouse and try to find them after I told him that two people aready are trying to find it but I think they decided to do something else. Another 10-15 minutes pass and he seems to be gone. I then happen to see the mamanger for that dept and tell him whats going on. As soon as he starts to go look for the three missing employees, the guy in the grey shirt comes back with a brand new X52 in his hand. I thank him for getting it for me and go to the check out. So far I was waiting for 30-45 minutes on it.

Wait....it gets even better!!!  This cute girl tries to scan it, it dont scan. She then punches the number in....$119.99. WTF!?!?!  I asked her is that right, because it said it was on sale for $89.99. WE check the flier, nope it isnt in there. She asks me to take her to where i found it, but the sale sign is gone too! I am getting to be a very unhappy meatwad. We go looking and find the fat grey shirted guy who apparently has the signs in his pocket. Turns out that Saturday was the last day of the sale and no one had pulled the ad signs yet. After a short discussion, I get it for $89.99. If I wouldnt of gotten it for the sale price after what I had to put up with, I would of plainly told him to stick it in a very dark place. After roughtly being there for 45 minutes of aggrivation, I finally an the new owner of my stick.

Heres something that made me feel good.  About a quarter mile away I happen to see a 3 or 4 foot satellite dish laying by a dumpster. Its in pretty good shape too, so I turn in and check it out. Its just what i have been looking for too, I have a project I need one for. I have no idea what establishment I am at, but there is a lot of cars there. I find the enterance and look up...."Olive Garden". Hmmm I am at some fancy schmancy restraunt. Oh well, I want that dish so im not going to leave without asking. I get in and this place is pretty clean and lots of dressed up people in there. I am far from dressed up, im in faded blue jeans, a dark blue tshirt and work boots. I ask the girl there if I can talk to the manager, which she says she will be here in a few minutes. So I am waiting and looking about, everyone is all dressed up neat and im more or less the bum right now. The manager comes up (she is a total babe!)  and asks me what can she help me with. I thought of something she could help me with but since I didnt feel like spending the day in jail, I didnt ask.  My exact words loud enough for a good number of people to hear me were "Can I ask you something? Out there by your dumpster you have a satellite dish, do you want to get rid of it?" I am sure people were staring at me like I was a hobo. She tells me she is glad to get rid of it and im more then welcome to take it. I thank her and go get it. I am sure I embarassed myself, but since I never go there and I live an hour away from the place, I wasnt one bit concerned over it. I can do a good job of embarassing myself so its not like its the first time.

I am now the proud owner of a X52 and a sat dish.  :)

So was it buried that deep in the warehouse or did they hope you would just go  'way because they made a mistake with the price
signs? Did any of them happen to be gypsys? they are always up to their tricks.

 Glad it worked out

He never did say where they found it. It all of a sudden came up when I was seen talking to the manager.  But I think he tried to fool me from the sale price though as it was stuck in his pocket. I know the sale was over after the whole ordeal passed, but at that time it still looked to be on sale

Good for you for going in Olive Garden and asking for the satellite dish to be sure it was okay for you to have it.  I'm sure the manager also was much happier to give it to you than just having it trashed.

That sale confusion unfortunately happens quite a bit.  You'd think the sale items could be efficiently purged or restocked but not always easy to get done on time, especially during the holidays.  You made out -- it was worth the wait.

Olive Garden is a ****hole.

They should be honored to have a guy in faded jeans and work boots grace their establishment.

I was going to say, where on earth do you live that you consider the olive garden a fancy restaurant?

Olive Garden is alright if you like alfredo sauce but I find their portions too small to justify their high prices.  A cheesey flower arrangement on the table and a cheap reproduction of a Monet on the wall should not allow you to charge $20 for an 8 ounce entree'.

Olive Garden is a two-bit corporate assembly line for grade C meat, poultry and fish. Their sauces rival the best of what you can get for club-prices at any grocery store, the atmosphere they provide has all the character of a Days Inn and their ethnic authenticity is on par with any mid-priced injection-molded object available at WalMart. As for their prices... Calling them overpriced would be an insult to John Travolta.

I'm assuming that you've got some pretty interesting restaurants in Southern Illinois. Olive Garden wouldn't be an interesting sight even if they discovered one on the moon. Nothing fancy, nothing shmancy, just mediocre in a very plastic sense of the word.

Their fountain sodas are alright, though.

Having worked for best buy as a teenager I can tell you this (I'm sure this is true of most corporate retail) that the local stores do not dictate the sales and often you get an item on sale that you only have a few of in stock.  It's quite frustraiting for the staff as well as the customers.

It's the old bait and switch.  They advertise something at a ridiculously low price and only have three in stock.  When they run out two minutes after unlocking the doors the salesperson is more than happy to point you towards a more expensive alterative.
