How about 2x MG 151 option loadout ONLY for Fw 190s?
« on: January 01, 2007, 04:01:12 AM »
How about having the option not to take machine guns (MG 17 or MG 131) on all Fw 190s?  Most 190 pilots did not take BBs in fight.  It was said that overall handling of the plane improved without the extra BBs.

For Example - Fw 190A-5

Armament:

Package 1
2) 20 mm MG-FF 120 rpg
2) 20 mm MG 151/20 250 rpg
2) 7.9 mm MG 17 900 rpg

Package 2
2) 20 mm MG 151/20 250 rpg
2) 7.9 mm MG 17 900 rpg

***Package 3***
2) 20mm MG 151/20 250 rpg

I've never heard this "Most pilots" bit.

I've heard it in rare instances with some later birds like 190Ds. I've heard it was factory-modified to remove all cowl MGs on the 190G series of aircraft (they weren't dogfighting as much).

However such a small weight savings wouldn't help the AH flight model much, and those "peashooters" as ya call 'em are very effective for figuring out approximate lead on a target before you hit the secondary.

Not to mention in the A8 they're almost as strong as 50cals.

I took down a lancaster with just an A-5s 7mm guns once. Use a LOT of ammo but did it.
